If you have been on Gulf Coast beaches / shoreline affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, please post here with details of what you saw, including time, date, exact location, pictures, etc.
It's not that I don't trust the mainstream media, mind you. Heavens no. It just seems like there are likely enough FReepers in places such that we can get at least a little bit of a trusted big picture on this enormously important event.
Admin moderator, if there is a thread like this already running, please delete this one.
//I wonder what the dolphins and the pelicans got to say about this//
They are dying, its all they can do.
Just waiting for Obama to provide Disaster Relief to Miami...(Florida Panhandle thang)
I think the longer this goes on, more will come out as to whose going to make the money from the spill. I’m beginning to think this whole thing is far from an accident. Call me crazy but there are those out there that don’t give a dam and will do anything to make a buck.
Glad to oblige. You're crazy.
Why is it the same three oil slick birds that have been in the press all week? I woul guess that tens of thousands of birds have been covered in oil, since this spill is much larger than the Exxon spill in Alaska.
“...but there are those out there that dont give a dam and will do anything to make a buck.”
Self evident with the Leftist crowd that took over the Democrat Political Party, and are in the process of finalizing their takeover of the Republican Political Party.
Will we have regular and unleaded Tarpon fishing classes now?
I still don’t care how much advertising the tourism industry spouts about pristine beaches, I’m staying away at least two years.
Friends on the beach at the Hilton in Pensacola say the reporters are running around desperate to find something to video. They report some small tarballs, otherwise, they are enjoying the water and the beach.
Could be that the 3 birds are all they have found? In past spills, there have been countless hours of coverage of volunteers washing birds. Why not this time?
Have you looked at who is going to make the money on the clean up? Al Gore is one of them that owns a good share of the company that is using the disspersants.
AlGore blowed up the oil well!?!?!?!?! Da-ummmm. No wonder Tipper is divorcing him.
The administrator of NOAA nearly closed off much of the Keys to fishing but changed his mind.
Instead those idiots got so much flack from us that they reopened 123 miles of previously closed off areas.
When Roy Crabtree the adm. was asked why he was ready to close off the Keys to fishing with no water samples or any other supporting data other than aerial visuals which are all but useless to support doing so his reply was: he was being proactive
Idiots all the way up and down the line in Govt. We are so screwed.
More likely he was following orders from Calamity Jane Lubchenco.
I didn’t say that. I find it interesting that we had the coal mine disaster and the mines were shut down, the oil rig disaster happened and the other rigs were shut down. I’m just afraid of what “might” be going on with this country. We best take a close look at this, but I don’t believe that this admin will do this. For one thing, they are incapable of doing it.
Can you imagine what would happen if only half of the 4000+ oil rigs in the gulf were attacked?
It is difficult to get into the marshes. You need an airboat to get to some affected areas and airboats aren’t that common in Louisiana. For places that can be reached by boat, they are restricted from entering by boom placements. So you are left with going in by air, but oil-soaked birds look like tiny specks from the air. Also, an oil-soaked bird is going to die pretty fast and get covered up by the marsh grass, so you just aren’t going to see them.
But we all know what NOAA thinks about dredging and what zero thinks about Bobby Jindal.
