I have to check on this.... I literally have no idea how far down the water level is or how deep the well is.

Where would I find a hand pump? Is that what they’re called? I’ve seen a plastic one at home depot, but I think it’s more for cleaning up water that’s collected in your basement lol

Before SHTF -
“the prepared” are “paranoid”

After SHTF -
“the prepared” are “greedy hoarders”

After The SHTF after the 1st round of SHTF -
“the greedy hoarders” are “enemies of the state, dead or alive”

Sadly....

That's when I use the last can of gasoline to burn it all.

Going the “Trashcan Man” route?

I bought a British Berkefeld water filter for Y2K. Do you know how the Lifesaver bottle compares?

No, just scorched-earth.

We have several-some antique- some fairly new. Our newest one came from a local hardware store. If they don’t have any in stock, they usually will order one for you. We just put a heavy bolt on a ball of twine, lowered it into the well until we heard it hit the water, marked the string and measured how long the string was to the bolt. Add a couple of feet and that is how long your plastic pipe needs to be. You might be surprised how near the top it is as water seeks its own level.

Gives us a real sense of security, knowing we have an available source of water. With our wood cooking stove, a good supply of survival foods, life should be more comfortable than for others less prepared.

We usually hook our pump up every summer just for the novelty of it (great-grandkids love to work the pump} Also, it is good to use it to keep the gaskets from drying out.

They are both excellent products and compare, in terms of performance, about the same.

The Berkey holds 3-5 gallons depending on the model you choose. The drawback is the size and they are not easily portable. Still, I am considering getting one or the larger Lifesaver.

The LifeSaver holds only 1 liter and is extremely portable. I carry this in my back pack, in the trunk of my car and can call upon it’s service where ever I am.

The drawback is it only holds enough water for one person at a time. My work around is to carry a 5 gallon folding camping container that I can fill if need be(I actually have 10 but carry one).

So you can transport 5 gallons of water in these camping containers and purify on the go or back at camp/base.

If you go to the first post, you should find the links to threads one and 2 of this ongoing thread.

In the beginning on thread #1, about 400 posts in, as my memory goes, you will find bug-out bags, which is a good working plan for survival, at home or leaving the home.

This link will give you many ideas and the lists are there for the contents needed:

Excellent starter foods.

Spam the canned meat is another, it has a lot of go power packed in that can.

And beans.

The list is long, I think so we can all find something we like to eat on it.

Even stockpiling a few cans a month, can take you past a hard spot in the road.
