AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry's showdown on the jogging trail has spurred a gun maker to sell a "Coyote Special" edition of the weapon he used to take down the varmint.
Perry shot the coyote that he said was threatening his daughter's puppy with a Ruger .380-caliber pistol. Manufacturer Sturm, Ruger & Co. Inc. has now come out with a version emblazoned with "Coyote Special" and "A True Texan" on the sides.

You ever go running while trying to pack that colt? The Ruger and the Kel-Tec .380 for that matter are perfect for runners due to their light weight and diminutive size.
Heh. From the headline, I thought this was an illegal immigration thread.
I hadn’t noticed any significant gap between the slide and frame on the XD. So, I went back and checked and still don’t see it.
All of mine have a gap between the frame and slide at that point, and I have three XD45s.
A used S&W 36 for $200? That’s a steal!
Got that right! I actually referred the buyer to the seller - if she had not bought it, I most certainly would have myself! But she needed it more than I do...
(As I keep telling myself - got to keep your eyes open for those deals!!! ;>)
The Ruger looks like a carbon copy of the Kel-Tec.
I wonder if the laser attachment is a bolt-on for the front of the trigger guard, like the Kel-Tec, or if it is built into the grip.
From the photos, it’s hard to tell.
I doubt it. I think Ruger is banking on the fact that they made a gun the size of a Kel-Tec, but with the Ruger pedigree. My guess is that for marketing purposes they don’t want anything to do with the Kel-Tec accessories. Then again, it might be worth the trip to the gun store to find out.
nope...one of those viral emails
Don’t count the Khar CW-45 either. Similar price point, accurate, and light enough to jog with.
Makes a great pocket gun for general CCW.
.380 to take down a feral dog? Guess it is the shot, not the gun.
...expect the best from Texas!
I have a KelTec .32, it’s my bike gun. The .45 Long Colt is a derringer. I wish they’d pass an open carry law so I could quit messing with these pea shooters. Get me a 41 Mag with a 6” barrel. If you run out of ammo you can beat the perp to death with it.
I know what you mean. I carry the Kel Tec P380 when the weather is warm, and a Kahr P45 when I am wearing a jacket. Since I’m out here in El Paso, guess which one gets the most use. It would be nice if Texas would not make a criminal out of anybody who poorly conceals a handgun.
The (reputed) Ruger photograph makes it look an awful lot like a Kel-Tec P3AT.
On the other hand, Ruger makes a nice little all-metal (tiny!)1911-style .380 that I saw in the store yesterday. By all means nicer made than the P3AT, of which mine was lost in an unfortunate encounter with an alligator in the Everglades last month.
It was a Crimson Trace LG-431 grip...one of the Laserguard series, that attaches to the trigger guard. Activated by normal grip pressure when you grip the gun. I have one on my LCP - wouldn’t leave home without it (even when I’m carrying my 1911...)
That’s the great thing about the P3AT. At the Kel Tec price you can afford to lose one to the “unexpected.”
