In replacing Supreme Court Justice John Wallace, NJ Gov. Chris Christie made good on his promise

New Jersey Senate President Stephen Sweeney and Chief Justice Stuart Rabner have decried Gov. Chris Christie’s decision not to reappoint Justice John Wallace to the state Supreme Court. They cite the importance of “process” and “custom,” suggesting that the governor’s decision threatens the court’s integrity. Are they being principled, or simply masking politics as usual?

< snip >

Candidate Christie, no less than Senator Obama, made clear what kind of judges he would, if elected, appoint. During the campaign, Christie declared: “I will remake the court and I will remake it on this one simple principle. If you want to legislate, then run for the Legislature, don’t put on a black robe and go to the Supreme Court . . . There won’t be any justices that I either reappoint or put on that court that do that.”

Christie charged that most of the justices lacked self-restraint, twisting the state constitution to suit their policy preferences and thereby short-circuiting the democratic process...

It is no surprise that Christie’s message resonated with voters, who certainly don’t expect him now to reappoint those who support the decisions needing reform.

In virtually every area of the law, from criminal procedure to tort and contract disputes, Wallace represented the liberal judicial activism that Christie opposed. So the expiration of his term provides the governor with the first opportunity to honor his campaign promise. If he were to capitulate and reappoint Wallace, he would bring himself into disgrace as just one more faithless politician.

For most conservatives, voting for Christie was like picking up a chick in a burqua. You don't know what's under there, but you hope it won't be too horrific.

Well what do you know? There's was a Penthouse Pet in there!

Chris Christie - Penthouse Pet.

The people are tired of lawlessness and dirt bags in the courts.

It’s no surprise in this article how the left twists the facts and deems themselves the constitutionalists and the right as the activists.

How many more terms are expected to expire in the next couple of years? If New Jersey is lucky, they will re-elect Christie and end up with a balanced court for the first time in generations.

So far, so good!

"Candidate Christie, no less than Senator Obama..."

Leave it to the Star Ledger to make that connection... What a WORTHLESS RAG. I swear, the only thing it's good for are coupon circulars on Sundays. The Sunday Employment Section insert is a weekly joke too... well, unless you want a fat union healthcare or teacher jobs... but I guess that's no fault of the Star Ledger.

Generally, the Star Ledger is a worthless rag, but this "guest columnist" is right on the money.

He was not comparing Christie to Obama, other than to say that both are appointing the types of judges they promised to appoint when campaigning.

But the bleating hypocrits on the left cheer Obama and yell "elections have consequences" when Obama appoints judges they support, and squeal like pigs when Christie appoints judges they don't.

There is nothing to complain about in this article.

"So far he’s been the surprise of the century ... a fat Reagan."

And in a totally Mob-dominated state, too.

Since we now have a totally Mob-from the South-side of Chicago-dominated US government being run out of DC at the mement, I say we nominate him to run against that Mob in 2012, too.

Well, Christie is a hoplophobe. He's no conservative when it comes to the 2nd Amendment, so yes, he does have a RINO streak. Perhaps if I didn't live in such a densely populated state, he'd view the 2nd Amendment from a constitutional/liberty perspective rather than from a law enforcement perspective. He makes no distinction between arms in the hands of the law abiding and those in the hands of street thugs. In his mind, the security of agents of the state supercedes the rights of citizens and the Bill of Rights.

"A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers."
- Ronald Reagan

HANNITY: Are there any issues where you are, quote, moderate to left as a Republican?
CHRISTIE:
Listen, I favor some of the gun-control measures we have in New Jersey.
HANNITY: Bad idea.
CHRISTIE: Listen, we have a densely-populated state, and there’s a big hand gun problem in New Jersey. Now, I don’t support all the things that the governor supports by a long stretch. But I think on guns — certain gun control issues, looking at it from a law-enforcement perspective, seeing how many police officers were killed, we have an illegal gun problem in New Jersey.
HANNITY: Should every — should every citizen in the state be allowed to get a licensed weapon if they want one?
CHRISTIE: In New Jersey, that’s not going to happen, Sean. HANNITY: Why?
CHRISTIE: Listen, the Democratic legislature we have, there’s no way those type of things — listen, at the end of the day, what I support are common sense laws that will allow people to protect themselves, but I also am very concerned about the safety of our police officers on the streets, very concerned. And I want to make sure that we don’t have an abundance of guns out there.
