There he stood, a Harvard MBA man, a man of numbers, backing a collapsing equity. Mitt Romney took to the podium in Salt Lake City, the place where he rose to prominence in 2002 as Olympic chief, and urged the GOP delegates to back Sen. Bob Bennett, Utah's three-term incumbent. Despite Romney's pleas, Bennett ended the day with a worthless bronze, dumped from the primary. For Romney, however, the moment was a silver not a victory, but an impressive showing.
When he ran for president, Romney was considered a little too calculating, a little too cool. Since then, he's been busy as an endorser and a booster, but that rap hasn't worn. As he travels around the country aiding candidates through his PAC and peddling his bestseller,

Bestseller? LOL!
WTH? I heard that National Review had Romney supporter...but this is ridiculous
See NRO still stands for National Rinos Online
” ... For Romney, however, the moment was a silver not a victory, but an impressive showing ... “
LOL you got to be kidding. Mitt is RINO No. 1, and his RINO pushing efforts came to naught!
He didn’t get a silver, he got a Cow Pie! IMHO
A little too cool? Did they just say that? Maybe ‘too much of a tool’.
A socialist supporting a socialist.
LLS
What's so "impressive" about backing a loser?
The author seems a bit confused:
“...he also showed that he has little sway with the group that ousted Bennett, folks who seemingly could care less about Romney’s stand.”
“Right or wrong, he’s at least showing that he can lead.”
Considering those two statements, where does one get the idea that Romney is leading? Even if he is showing leadership, it seems that no one is following.
( Actually, Mitt supported Bennett because he is old. Mitt lives to make his father, and father figures, old men happy. There is no Mitt the individualist. Sad, really. )
You forgot the BARF ALERT.
“For Romney, however, the moment was a silver not a victory, but an impressive showing.”
NRO (aka Romney Central) is in spin overdrive. Romney is booed off the stage IN UTAH!!!!! And his endorsee goes down in flames. How is Allahpundi spinning this little catastrophe?
Sarah Palin is going to mop the floor with Mitt IF and this is a BIG if) he has the guts to take her on.
Thanks for pinging one of the most irresponsible posters on this site.
National Review has more mittens than Santa’s elves.
I just think this article deserves the glistening Romney “gold tooth.” It is about as lame as anything I have ever seen. As a Romney bot, aren’t you embarrassed by it”?
My Soul & Mitt Romney [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
This appears on The Nations website:
One of Romney's biggest fans is the National Review's Kathryn Jean Lopez, a right-wing Catholic who opposes abortion with all of her soul. As I reported in the Nation last November, Lopez was given a private reception by Romney last October. The visit yielded a fawning blog post and a softball interview in which NR editors acknowledged that KLo "has some pro-Romney tendencies."
What the National Review failed to acknowledge was that Romney donated $10,000 to its in-house think tank, the National Review Institute, right before declaring his presidential candidacy. Just a few quick facts, for the record: Romney's foundation gave $5,000 to the National Review Institute, a fact fully disclosed at the time. The other $5,000 that post refers to was from a group called Evangelicals for Mitt. The contributions were among others solicited by NRI to defray the costs of the NRO 10th Anniversary event it hosted.
What is not noted here is the Lopez has shown signs of having a king-sized crush on Mitt, and continues to do so. You can count on NRO continuing to pimp for Mitt through 2012.
“You can count on NRO continuing to pimp for Mitt through 2012.”

They can’t spin something like this. It is a disaster for Mittens plain and simple. If they are trying to help him, they should ignore it. Bringing it up and trying to put a positive face on it makes them and him look ridiculous (as if they needed any help). Posting it on FR is a huge mistake, because it will draw further attention to Mitt from those who already detest him.
The McCain-ization of the 2012 GOP primaries continues apace. We must nip this in the bud.
All this showed was that Mitt Romney is totally at odds with the Tea Party. He can no longer be able to even fake liking us.
