· FAST FACTS · Third Shelter will open at Hollywood Community Center · Survivors urged to call 1-800-621- FEMA · FEMA reps assure West Tennesseans they are not forgotten

(MEMPHIS 5/7/2010) -- The Shelby County Office of Preparedness announced Friday, a third shelter will open at the Hollywood Community Center for storm survivors.

The Ed Rice Community Center on North Watkins is at capacity. There are about 150 people there, 50 will be moved to the Hollywood location once it's up and running.

Officials at the Emergency Operations Center in Memphis say about 60 residents in Millington are staying at a shelter located near the Millington Jetport. Sign Up For ALERTS From Us

Several roads remain closed: Sullivan, Kerrville, Osborntown between Godwin and Moose, and Brunswick between Idaville and Tracy Road.

We're told two lanes of Poplar Avenue between Massey and Kirby will remain closed through next week as crews make repairs.

The Office of Preparedness will hold another briefing Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at the operations center.

Earlier in the day, FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate toured West Tennessee. Many storm survivors have been anxious to see FEMA in their neighborhoods. The flooding in Tennessee was so wide spread, many worried FEMA would forget about Memphis, Millington, Dyersburg and other areas hit in the Mid-South.

Fugate says folks here should feel reassured, FEMA is well aware they are struggling. "We want to be sure everyone here in West Tennessee understands we know it's bad, we're on hand and we know," he said.

Fugate says storm survivors should call 1-800-621-FEMA to set up an appointment for an inspector to meet them at their damaged home or apartment.

Please don’t forget 52 counties were hard hit not only by the flooding but by 13 small twisters. Millington, TN was the city in Shelby Co hit the worse, when the Big Creek Levy broke flooding the Navy base and Navy housing. Along with the Shady Oaks Trailer Court 300+ units were under 7-8 feet of water. And our governor nowhere to be seen in West Tennessee. Just saw the first FEMA agent on the news 3 tonight 7 days later. We look like a war zone. And what little coverage is of Nashville, on CNN, not FNC.

Haven't heard much about FEMA and this disaster...but then....Obama controls the media

.....These people appear to be a little more self sustaining than the Louisianna welfare state.

You haven’t heard much beyond Nashville. FEMA showed up in Shelby Co yesterday, 7 days after the storm.

We lived in Millington in the early 80’s. I can’t remember the street we lived on or the neighborhood. I do remember there was a Ben Franklin within walking distance, cause I use to walk over there. Maybe 1/2 to 3/4 mile away. Is all Millington flooded?

We lived about 20 minutes from the Naval Base, closer to Memphis.

HIT HARD, HARDEST HIT IN SHELBY CO. Navy base evacuated, Navy housing flooded, when the Big Creek Levy broke. Shady Oaks Trailer court 300+ trailers there by the RR tracks were under 7-8 feet of water. Water was up to the RR track level. Several other trailer courts damaged, but not as totally as Shady Oaks. This along with businesses and brick and mortar homes. This was worse than the 1987 flood.

... and FEMA has divested it's stock of travel trailers by selling them for ten cents on the dollar. They will now probably buy them back at retail!

Where are the riots? Are prominent democrats holding a press conference to announce they have evidence of a plot by GWB to flood Nashville, to drive out the people of color?

NO riots, just neighbors rolling up their sleeves and helping neighbors. Memphis is the home of most people of color in the state, there was some flash flooding in Mid Town Memphis, due to a pumping station break down, but that was over quickly.

Millington, took the BRUNT of the storm. Navy Housing was evacuated due to flooding.

NO, we haven’t seen our County Mayor AC Wharton (D), our Governor Breseden (D), or 1 of Millington’s 2 State Senators Ophelia Ford (D)(INFAMOUS Ford family, who fell off the bar stool drunk, to sick to do her job). All MIA.

We aren’t the right kind of “victims” in Nashville. By just yesterday, people had turned out by the thousands to help strangers clean out their homes, throw away ruined items, tear out sheet rock and tear up carpet. We will survive quite well without Obastard.
