SEIU Blog: Stop Killer Profits
SEIU.org ^ | March 4, 2010 | By Kate Thomas

Big insurance lobbyists will never forget Tuesday, March 9th, 2010.

Next week, they're going to be at the Washington, DC Ritz-Carlton for a retreat. And they have one item on the agenda: killing health care reform once and for all. But we've decided to go ahead and pencil ourselves into the itinerary.

On Tuesday, March 9th, thousands of Americans are confronting the AHIP lobbyists at the DC Ritz-Carlton to perform a citizens' arrest. Will you join us?

Big insurance talks a good game about improving health care, but their actions say otherwise. In recent weeks, insurance companies have forced double-digit increases on patients. In California, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield tried to cram through a 39% rate hike on its customers.

We were able to postpone that increase, but we have to keep fighting until we've stopped them all. If you're in DC, join thousands of Americans as we confront the lobbyists who are blocking reform: http://action.seiu.org/citizensarrest

These massive rate hikes are bringing in huge profits and perks for the insurance companies. Profits are at an all-time high, and companies like Anthem are spending tens of millions of dollars to fly their executives around the country for lavish retreats.

They're doing it again next week at the Ritz-Carlton in DC. But this time, we'll be there to meet them. While the insurance lobbyists party it up at five star hotels, Americans are dying because they can't afford coverage. We were able to delay Anthem's plan to increase rates, but we need to stop big insurance's greedy practices once and for all.

If thie 39% increase is so onerous, why was it approved by the California Agency regulating these increases?

If the Insurance companies have nothing to gain by this healthcare proposal, why are their stocks up by 10%?

Did you notice that it happened just in time for Obama to use it in his healthcare speach? Coincidence?

No profits, no SEIU if you follow the path all the way to the logical conclusion.

The idea we can all work for government and everyone has a job has been tried and tried again.

Pay attention to your state legislatures people. A lot of noise has been made about the democrats forcing the unionization of home care workers in Michigan but a little digging shows that a handfull of leftist republican state legislators were the ones who set the whole deal up.

On Aug. 5, 2009, Sen. Jason Allen, R-Traverse City, introduced Senate Bill 731, which would give statutory cover to a scheme transferring approximately $6.6 million in taxpayer money annually to the SEIU government employee union, one of the parents of ACORN. This is accomplished by creating a shell government "employer" for some 42,000 individuals who are actually hired by elderly or disabled Medicaid recipients to provide personal care services in their homes.

GOP Senators, SEIU Taxpayer Giveaways, Campaign Cash and More, OH MY!

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:

http://economicspolitics.blogspot.com/2009/05/tricare-for-life-is-obama-trying-to.html

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollee’s cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf

By Rick Maze - Staff writer, Oct 7, 2009

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.

The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.

“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.
