Ads Will Encourage Foreigners to Come to America (YOUR tax$$$)

WASHINGTON – TV viewers abroad may soon find themselves watching commercials urging them to visit America.

In the Oval Office this morning, President Obama signed legislation to launch a campaign to promote foreign travel to the U.S.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is a leading proponent of the measure. His home state of Nevada, led by Las Vegas, depends heavily on tourism.

"We're the only country in the world, major country in the world, that doesn't promote itself," Reid said last month at a Town Hall Meeting with Mr. Obama in Henderson, NV.

Reid pointed to commercials on American television promoting travel to Jamaica, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.

"We hope within two or three months, we'll be promoting ourselves," Reid said, clearly making an increase in tourism a plank of his re-election drive.

The Travel Promotion Act will create a nonprofit corporation to encourage and facilitate foreign travel to America. Costs of the program will be shared by the public and private sectors. The federal government is expected to provide up to $100-million a year. The funds would come from a $10 fee slapped on travelers from the 35 countries that are part of the Visa Waiver Program in the U.S.

The new law has bipartisan support. Members of Congress of both parties were invited to watch Mr. Obama sign the measure, though it was off-limits to press coverage.

The bill passed the House and Senate by sizeable margins.

It remains to be seen what kind of advertising slogans the corporation will come up with to encourage travel to the U.S. Not everything about us might be appealing to foreigners.

It's doubtful, for example, we'll see a commercial that says: "Come to America. Join the debate over health care reform."

This one was 'bipartisan' and slipped by us, just signed by Obama. This is to buy off Harry Reid's Las Vegas interests and has bad implications all the way around.... another bureaucracy, another 'czar' and millions in tax dollars to promote more illegal alien visa overstays.

Wednesday, February 24, 2010 Harry Reid strikes again - new bureaucracy & more Aliens-Travel Promotion Act

From the Christian Science Monitor:

“Democrats plan to continue the strategy with a tourism promotion bill, The tourism bill, especially helpful to states such as Nevada, which has been hard hit by a drop-off in visitors, proposes creating a nonprofit corporation to promote travel to the United States and correct “misperceptions about US entry policy” since the 9/11 attacks. It would be financed by an annual assessment of $20 million from the tourism industry and $100 million a year from taxpayers. “

Let’s dissect this, shall we?

“The tourism bill, especially helpful to states such as Nevada, .......

Harry is behind in the polls for his re-election...just buying some votes!

” proposes creating a nonprofit corporation to promote travel to the United States....

Nonprofit? Since when has any government bureaucracy been for profit?? Will this be another cabinet level department? Yet another Czar? ‘non-profits’ will likely be in charge of handling this department....can you say ACORN???

“to promote travel to the United States and correct “misperceptions about US entry policy” since the 9/11 attacks. “

In other words, let ‘em all in! 40% of foreign aliens become visa overstay illegal aliens. Foreign women, even the well to do, come here to drop their anchor babies and then take them home to grow up as “US voting citizens”, where they don’t even have to be here to vote in our elections..... Or they stay here and get the benefits of any US Citizen. This directly effects countries who sponsor terrorism.

“It would be financed by an annual assessment of $20 million from the tourism industry and $100 million a year from taxpayers. “

Tourism industry....that would be Harry’s big donors at the Vegas casino’s. He must keep those big donors happy! $20 million to them is a great investment to get the rich Saudi’s, etc. in their casinos who can’t get here now because they sponsor terrorism. And the employees? Can you say SEIU???

“and $100 million a year from taxpayers. “ That one speaks for itself!

By the way, John McCain gets most of his money from the big casino boys in Vegas. Let’s see if he’s one of the republicans who help Harry out with this dangerous legislation.

Harry is real good at spending other people’s money, isn’t he??

But remember, this is from the guy who says the income tax is ‘voluntary’.

“Nevada, led by Las Vegas, depends heavily on tourism”

only from Americans. People in other countries can generally gamble their money away at home.

Foreign tourism is a very small percentage of Las Vegas’ income.

Foreign tourism is a very small percentage of Las Vegas’ income.

I would disagree with this statement. Everytime I've been to Las Vegas, foreigners out number Americans 3 to 1.

$100 million.

chump change to Obama and the libs.

Did the Senate pass this?? A new tax too. I would not doubt it got “unanimous consent”.

Nice sentiment...not going to happen.

Nearly Half of Illegal Immigrants Overstay Visas

[snip]Many immigrants who are in the United States illegally never jumped a fence, hiked through the desert or paid anyone to help them sneak into the country. According to a recent study, 45 percent of illegal immigrants came here on a legal visa, and then overstayed that visa. NPR’s Ted Robbins reports on the massive visa overstay problem

>>>Foreign tourism is a very small percentage of Las Vegas’ income.

From the LVCVB:
About 1 visitor in 10 to Las Vegas is from a foreign country, but international visitors have an outsized effect on the city’s tourist industry because they spend more than U.S. travelers. They also tend to stay longer.

Because of add-ons to the Patriot Act, tourism to the US has taken a nose dive. Not surprisingly, so has domestic US air travel. This is because the US has slapped on some amazing restrictions that it now demands of foreign travelers entering the US—before they can even board planes for the US. And demand that other countries pay for it as well.

First of all, the vast majority of these new restrictions are nonsense. They do not increase our security, and they are a major hassle, as well as being intrusive and obnoxious. If you disagree, look at the utter b.s. involved with our own TSA. Now imagine that times ten.

It’s hard to say which are the worst of these. Expensive, high tech passports that take forever to get and don’t work. Trying to search everybody “equally” even though 99.9% of terrorist acts are done by Muslims, who are most of the time VERY OBVIOUSLY MUSLIMS.

Then there is the infamous “No Fly List”, which dozens of police and other agencies can add to, but NOBODY is responsible for, audits or maintains. In other words, it is nearly worthless. What kind of idiot terrorist travels under his real name, if he is a notorious terrorist?

And the US also insists on million dollar electronic gizmos that do not work, from bomb sniffing machines, to facial nervousness scanners and facial recognition scanners. To the latest crapola, the naked scanners.

The US government started this hooey not because it *works*, but because *they* think that *we* are so stupid, that *we* will think it works. Billions of dollars down the rat hole, just to make air travel a major pain in the butt.

The only people who really like this stuff are the eco-lunatics, who hate and fear planes, and think that ox carts are good enough.

If I could be sure that this would lead to a positive economic impact greater than its cost i’d be for it. Tourism can bring in a lot of cash. But i’d have to see evidence first.

One thing you can be sure of is more visa fraud, more anchor babies who may go back home and vote in our elections...and nearly half of visas issued become USA squatting illegal aliens.

[snip]U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have arrested two women in Miami and charged them with operating a major student visa fraud ring through which they tricked the federal government into granting more than 200 student visas to foreign nationals who were not students, agency officials and the U.S. attorney in Miami announced Thursday...

How can you imagine that a terrorist is still able to get on a plane??? you have to fill out questions before you can fly to the US so they can sort out the terrorists ;-). (i just came back from the US).
my favourite question:

Question C:

C) Have you ever been or are you now involved in espionage or sabotage; or in terrorist activities; or genocide; or between 1933 and 1945 were you involved, in any way, in persecutions associated with Nazi Germany or its allies? YES/NO

I guess this question will definitely sort out all possible terrorist ;-)

Yea, send our jobs overseas and then import a bunch of foreigners to take the rest of our jobs. Great plan.
