PCUSA Tempted to Divest from Israel (Presbyeterian)
Weekly Standard ^ | March 4, 2010 | Alan Wisdom

Six years ago, the nearly 3 million member Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) became the first and only U.S. religious body to adopt a divestment policy against Israel. After a large uproar from Christians and Jews, including a personal appeal from Presbyterian former CIA Director James Woolsey at the church’s General Assembly in 2006, the divestment stance was repealed.

Controversy over the church’s stance towards Israel may now reignite. A special PCUSA study committee is proposing that the denomination’s 2010 General Assembly take a strident anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian stance. The committee’s report points to the Israeli presence on the West Bank as the great evil in the Middle East. It urges the United States to “employ the strategic use of influence and the withholding of financial and military aid to enforce Israel’s compliance” with demands for withdrawal. The committee recommends no similar pressure against any other actors in the region.

The bible warns us not to mess with His people. These people need to read their bible more. God have mercy on them.

Used to be in the PCUSA....they aren’t real Presbyterians (inclined to think they aren’t real Christians either) anymore. The majority is apostate.

I wonder why they aren’t philosophically consistent and return to the Catholic church? After all, they were created through a ‘war’ of thought and created a new denomination as a ‘buffer zone’ of theology to keep out the encroachment of what they consider heretical thought to prevent another ‘war’.

IIRC, this is the same denomination that contributed money to Angela Davis in the 1960s, to show “love” and “compassion” for Davis, who was a member of the communist party and who had been arrested for subversive activities.

AFAIK, the same denomination never gave a cent to help out Christians or others jailed by communist regimes.

The leadership was long ago taken over by leftist whackos; and from this it appears that nothing has changed.

The Leftist’s in control of the PCUSA have never stopped their campaign against Israel.

In 2004 the PCUSA voted to Divest holdings of those corporations doing business with Israel That action was rescinded in 2006.

The few remaining Conservatives in the PCUSA will not be able to stop the Anti-Israel sentiment of the PCUSA leadership.

Mainly what we have now in the PCUSA is an organization on its deathbed. The PCUSA has been hemmorhaging members for the last 50 years. The PCUSA leadership thinks they are important, but no one is listening to them.

although there are Palestinian Christians, they are an endangered species. And it is Palestinians who are intimidating, killing and driving out the Christians - not Israel. And the Presbys are supporting who???

It is quite a phenomenon how 50 years of institutional brainwashing of students has led to such a pervasive sense of white guilt. Without any alternative media(like Foxnews) Walter Cronkite, Peter Jennings, and Dan Rather types were able to help the educational system teach young white males that they were homophobic, racist, sexists. This has contributed to their relative absence these days on college campuses, and has led to them accepting laws that discriminate against them for jobs and acceptance into schools. Seems to me that too many young white boys are content playing video games and living with mom and dad until they are 30. This is partly the fault of our institutions—schools, media, judicial declarations, etc. I’m not confident that the AWM will be able to overcome this subtle yet powerful brainwashing.

Here’s a thought for the conservative secularists out there: go join a traditional Christian church with a solid intellectual foundation like the Evangelical Presbyterians or conservative Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod or something. You will meet mostly good people and you can always interpret the Biblical lessons as good guidance for living.

Occasionally, you may find yourself in disagreement with someone who believes in the literal account of Genesis. But in general, most Christians don’t expect everyone to agree with them. They often consider those with other views as “not yet saved.” The discussion can generally end pleasantly.

Compare that to liberals. They do expect everyone to agree with them, and generally don’t allow a smooth end to the conversation if they discover disagreement. Therefore, a conservative in a left-wing church like PCUSA will be made to feel very uncomfortable.

In short, it’s easier to have some theological disagreement with a church than some political disagreement. Of course, one can always sleep in on Sunday mornings. But being involved in a community can bring so many benefits.

Our church just voted last week to leave the PCUSA and become a part of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
700 members - 97% voted to leave. PCUSA has been going in the wrong direction for years.

It’s sad, really sad to see a denomination die like the PCUSA.

We are in the PCA now....nice to get sound Reformed doctrine and not have to worry about the theology and morality of the people in the pulpit.

The PCUSA only pays lip service to most of its confessional documents, such as the Westminster Confession.

That’s a big part of the problem right there.

I've been thinking that these folks should carry some kind of card in their wallet notifying EMT that they want no treatments or drugs developed in Israel. Heck, if they don't want to be treated by Jews, that's OK too. The problem, moral, consistant people that they are, they don't use cellphones or wireless internet, so how to get them the message.

The PCUSA, and any other sect which does this, should lose tax exempt status, pronto.
