Are Republicans "Due"?
Investors.com ^ | January 15, 2010 | The great THOMAS SOWELL

High Stakes Even For Non-Republicans

When a baseball player has come to bat after failing to get a hit 20 times in a row, some fans say he is "due" for a hit. But statisticians say he is no more likely to get a hit in this at bat than at any other time. In other words, there is no such thing as being "due."

After the Republicans went from being the dominant party, at both the state and national levels, just a few years ago, and got clobbered at the polls by the Democrats two elections in a row, some people think the Republicans are "due" to make a comeback in this fall's elections.

Maybe it will happen. The polls show that the voting public is getting more and more fed up with the Obama administration and with both houses of Congress that are dominated by Democrats. But, when Election Day comes, nobody can vote for polls. It still takes a candidate to beat a candidate — and the question is whether the Republicans come up with the kinds of candidates that can win.

Those of us who are not Republicans nevertheless have a huge stake in this fall's elections, because the current administration in Washington is not merely deficient but dangerous, both at home and abroad.

I don't think the Republicans are ‘due’. I think when the Republicans are in power like they were for the first 6 years of the Bush administration, they need to “USE” their power and stop bowing down or listening to what the Democrats want. If the republicans can't or won't grow a set of balls, they will continue to lose elections and seats in both the Senate and the House to the democrats.
Grow a set and maybe things will start going their way. Also, listen to what the people who voted for you. If you do that, you will be re-elected and the Democrats won't take power from you.

This has little to do with Republicans, and everything to do with the Democrats. They have revealed their true nature and intentions, and the American people are resoundingly rejecting them.

This isn’t to say there aren’t good Republicans. There are many. But the dynamics at play right now are anger and a sense of betrayal.

A long read, but well worth the time to read and re-read again. Mr. Sowell hits the nail squarely on the head.

"Those of us who are not Republicans nevertheless have a huge stake in this fall's elections, because the current administration in Washington is not merely deficient but dangerous, both at home and abroad."

"The stakes in this fall's elections go far beyond the fate of either the Republican Party or the Democratic Party. The fate of America is on the line. The Republicans need to understand that — and to understand that they are not simply "due" because of polls. They have a job to do, and what will happen to our children and grandchildren will depend on how well they do it."

I really wonder if Republicans at either the grass roots level or party leadership level really perceive how much is at stake? As Dr. Sowell states, far beyond any Party fate, but the fate of the Republic lays in their understanding of where we have sunk in terms of the life of this Republic and how they have been quite complicit in the fall!

To take this baseball scenario a bit further - relating it to the GOP - you cannot be a good, or consistent hitter, if you are AFRAID OF THE BALL.

In this case "the ball" refers to fear of the press, fear of being called a "racist", fear of being called "unfair", fear of the dems saying anything negative at all.

I think the ostrich behavoir of the GOP is totally, and 100%, fear based. They're trying too hard to please everyone, and that can't be done.

But they are about to learn the true meaning of the old parable, "A coward dies a thousand deaths, the hero but once.". As the cowardly incumbents bend and sway to obama-K*, the left adjourns to their private meeting halls and laughs their butts off and how they're making the GOP flinch.

So, are the Republicans due? Well, in the sense of fair play and a level playing field, I don't think so...they are only DUE if the WORK FOR IT.

We need some American patriot courage - some "damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead".

It's the Ben Nelson's who are nose-diving, he sold out...but it's the brave who rise above the fray, and attract the support, i.e. Palin, Brown, etc.

GOP players, if you're afraid of "the ball", stay in the dugout...we don't need you on the field drinking up the Gatorade. If it's attention you need, go to the next tryouts for American Idol and try your luck there, where actual talent, and not B.S. is what it takes to get "selected".

Play ball.

Post # 14 is also for you, but I repeat it again.

Sarah Palin must be a RINO since she is a Republican. /sarcasm.

When asked by Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity if she was a Conservative or Republican she answered Republican.

“No nation on earth will let three of its cities be annihilated by nuclear bombs without surrendering. The fact that the United States has never surrendered may make it difficult for Americans even to imagine that it could happen, much less what a horror it would be to live under hate-filled fanatics like the current Iranian leaders. But Japan had likewise never surrendered in its entire history until it was hit with two nuclear bombs.”

I fear this is going to be the wake-up call we’re ALL dreading.

It’s not going to happen on 0bama’s watch. I fear and pray fervently for our NEXT President who is going to have to come to the office with a bucket and a mop. *SIGH*
