2010 California Senate: Three GOP Hopefuls Narrow The Gap With Boxer
Rasmussen Reports ^ | January 15, 2010

Posted on 01/15/2010 4:06:04 PM PST by Clintonfatigued

Boxer leads former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina by just three points, 46% to 43%. In November, Boxer was also at the 46% level of support.

The longtime Democratic senator runs best right now against state Assemblyman Chuck Devore, beating him by six points, 46% to 40%. Two months ago, though, she posted a 10-point lead on DeVore, 49% to 39%.

As for Campbell, the ex-congressman and former state finance director who on Thursday quit the governor’s race to jump into the Senate contest, Boxer leads him by just four points, 46% to 42%.

Suddenly, it’s 1993 again- the silent majority is awakening.

Boxer has been in the Senate since 1992 and she's barely ahead of three GOP hopefuls in Blue State California. Its not a good sign for the Democrats there this year.

Boxer has been holding at 46% for months, if she cant get to 50% now, she’s in trouble in Nov because it wont take much to knock her off percentage wise.

Maybe Californians think all incumbents need removing, there seems to be a movement for taking out old hacks.

Its open season.

I think she's outworn Californians' welcome. After four terms, people want a fresh face in Washington. And the national anti-Democratic mood that's spilling over into the Golden State isn't helping her.

She only won because her campaign put out an ad saying Bruce Herschenson was seen coming out of a strip club. Republicans stayed home. I’d like her competition make an ad using her treatment of that General. Remember when she degraded him verbally for calling her ma’am?

Think how pathetic the constituents are in her district to continue to support her. What does it say about their worth in determining elections?

Reid’s going down in November, there will be a book detailing a ton of dirt. Could be a perfect storm.

Just please stop healthcare.

Hopefully, the funeral homes in Pelosis district are continuing to do a brisk business, and we can see the last of her end too.

Think DeVore has a better shot in the primary now that it’s a 3-way race?

DeVore will have a better chance now that Campbell in the race. Campbell and Fiorina are moderates, DeVore the true conservative.

Interesting that both DeVore and Campbell live in Irvine.

I’m not optimistic about winning statewide in Cali but you never know.

Boxer was supposed to lose in 1998 to Matt Fong but she didn’t.

I noticed last week that Campbell switched races. A couple cali Freepers told me they preferred him for Governor amongst the then trio of viable candidates. That leaves it a 2 person race tween Poizner who gave to the Gore recount committee and now insists he’s a conservative and it was his wife’s idea (lol) and the Van Jones loving DIABLO Meg Whitman. Barf.

Campbell indeed has done the conservative candidate Chuck DeVore as he’ll suck votes from Carly Fiorina.

While winning statewide in CA is never easy, one thing we’ve learned over the past 4 months is that the current political environment allows us to win statewide in states like NJ and even MA. In fact, if the Senate election in CA was held next week, I would bet that Fiorino would beat Boxer (but maybe not DeVore becsuse his name ID isn’t high enough).

It goes without saying that the field of GOP candidates running for governor and Senate in CA has been disappointing. For governor, Whitman is a liberal RINO while Poizner does not have the stature to get elected governor and is probably a RINO as well. For the Senate, Fiorino is a social liberal and may be a RINO; Campbell (who just entered the race) is the king of socially liberal Republicans but is fairly good on economic issues; and DeVore is a solid conservative, but does not have the profile, background or name ID usually required of successful U.S. Senate candidates in CA. In a year like 2010, we could probably win both races if we ran first-tier candidates such as Tom McClintock for governor and Darryl Issa for the Senate. Perhaps there is still time to convince them to run. If not, we may well lose the governorship to Jerry Brown, and may be the underdog (albeit with a chance of winning) against Boxer.

The state party brass seems set on their chosen ladies, Arnold in a skirt whom I wouldn’t vote for as Governor. And Carly who isn’t as bad as that but no is no conservative or top tier candidate.

Since McClintock just finally won a higher office I worry about him risking a statewide race again but he’s the best candidate for Governor I can think of. Those races are begging for better (or stronger in DeVore’s case) candidates.

Carly Fiorina is pretty bad. How could that level of incompetence win a campaign, I wonder?
