Statewide Anthrax Scare- Suspicious powder mailed to 3 Alabama Republican Congressmen

The Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating a statewide anthrax scare. Local lawmakers are among the targets.

Letters with white powder were sent to the offices of Senators Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions and Congressman Jo Bonner around the state.

The 15th floor of the RSA Tower in downtown Mobile, where one of Bonner's offices is located, has been evacuated as a precaution. So has Bonner's office in Foley. It's located in a shopping center on McKenzie Street. More than a dozen businesses, including the News 5 bureau, have also been evacuated.

The FBI says everything they've tested so far has come back negative. At this point, they say there is no reason to be alarmed.

The Robert Vance Federal Building in Birmingham will be closed until Wednesday because of an anthrax scare. An employee catching up on work discovered an envelope containing white powder over the weekend. Initial tests for anthrax were negative, but five people are being treated with antibiotics after potentially being exposed to the substance. The building houses the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Birmingham.

The FBI says a suspicious letter was also received Monday at the federal Courthouse in Anniston.

The FBI will release more information during a 2pm news conference in downtown Mobile.

Domestic Terrorism ...

Is the Homeland Defense Act still applicable here if the envelopes were mailed off before Dec. 31?

Don’t worry, the “system worked”, this is an “isolated incident” and there is no such thing as a war of terror.

Headline is misleading. Implies the anthrax was mailed from the Republican congressmen’s offices.

I get the impression sometimes that print media headline writers couldn’t compose a proper english sentence fragment if a gun were held to their collective heads.

Why does the headline read as if the Three Alabama Republican Congressment DID the mailing?

To this day, it is claimed that the Boca Raton Anthrax attacks right after 9/11/01 had NOTHING to do with Islamic Terrorism.

Yet the victim in that attack was the husband of the realtor who had obtained Mohammed Ata’s apartment.

And now, another Anthrax attack immediately following a spate of Islaofascist attacks on on our country?

What profound coincidences.

Yeah, I think the MSM journalism schools offer special training on such sophistry:

"employ the ambiguous passive participle whenever the stupid sheeple are likely to interpret it as the past tense verb form, thereby slandering the 'R' under discussion."

"Three Alabama Republican Congressmen mailed suspicious powder (Anthrax)

The way the headline reads is they mailed it not they received it.

I thought that, too. The original source has change it. Good word to those that complained.

USA Today did something similar with an article that described Republicans as "Vow[ing] to crush Obama's" this or that. It was a deceptive title. I called them on it and they changed it.

What conservatives have to keep in mind is that they have to work much harder than leftists to force the press to be fair.

And little things count, too. Just getting a headline change makes a difference.

Deliberate attempt to mislead.
