Wood fires may be banned on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day across Bay Area

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is asking residents to check before burning any wood fires on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day since predicted light winds and cool air may create unhealthy air conditions across the region.

. . .
The district has already issued two winter Spare the Air alerts, its first one falling on Thanksgiving Day.

On these days, Bay Area residents are prohibited from burning wood or manufactured fire logs in fireplaces, wood stoves, fire pits or in any other place. The ban extends to both indoor and outdoor fires.

These A**holes cannot expand power or maintain power without having the bureaucratic authority to fine people and make an example of them for what looks like no apparent reason.

A burning ban would also require specific notification and proof that you knew a ban existed.

I thought that ignorance of the law was not a valid defense.

Hey guys, I live in the San Joaquin Valley of California and when the winter weather patterns are right the wood burning that goes on would choke most people. We get all the pollution that the Bay Area produces including the wood burning smoke. Once the smoke gets to the valley it doesn’t leave. We have wood burning banned on winter days here too. When there is a high pressure system over the valley the smoke cannot escape and it is like a lid on us.

When the land was sparsely populated wood burning wasn’t a problem it is just that now the problem is geometric in proportion. I don’t like gov’t regulation either it is just in this case an occasional day or two on wood burning makes it easier for those of us downwind to breathe.

I’m going to have to burn some extra wood to make up the deficit. I hope others can help pick up the slack, too.

You are not “ignorant” just not informed that a a ban was put into effect. A movable law if you will.
