Wood fires may be banned on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day across Bay Area
San Jose Mercury News ^ | 12/23/9 | Bay City News

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is asking residents to check before burning any wood fires on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day since predicted light winds and cool air may create unhealthy air conditions across the region.

. . .
The district has already issued two winter Spare the Air alerts, its first one falling on Thanksgiving Day.

On these days, Bay Area residents are prohibited from burning wood or manufactured fire logs in fireplaces, wood stoves, fire pits or in any other place. The ban extends to both indoor and outdoor fires.

I guess we’ll have to change the song to “Chestnuts roasting on a Bunsen Burner...” this year.

By order of the city of SF - all sex clubs and bath houses will remain open. We worry about the air quality but do go ahead and spread viruses diseases and bacteria whilst patronizing SF sex clubs.

Asinine BS. Anyone who burns and gets a ticket let me know. Easy to beat as long as you keep your mouth shut while being detained in your own home.

Please elaborate. I'm curious about this one.

yah...the local equivalent called a “Stage 2” burn ban 2 weeks ago during the most frigid temperatures we had seen here in 15 years. Anyone who depends on firewood for their only hear source is exempt, but if all you have is an electric heat pump, it does pretty much nothing when the temperatures are in the teens.

The only good news is that my stove is new enough that it smokes very little, and the chimney is not visible from the street.

I guarantee if they have the name “Bush” somewhere on them it will be considered free speech and will fall outside the ban.

There you go, wrap your firewood with old newspaper pictures of President Bush and they won’t say a word about your fire.

Hmmmm... they didn't say anything about that tire dump down the road.

I haven't had a good fire in my backyard yet this winter, I think this weekend might be a perfect time for another.

Any conviction of a moving ban or target in Kalifornia requires notification. For example I have beaten many HOV lane tickets because the cop could not verify that I knew what time it was. I am part of the reason some HOV signs now have clocks and "In force" lights. ;-)

A burning ban would also require specific notification and proof that you knew a ban existed. I do not watch local news, I do not go to government websites, I do not listen to local radio. I was not aware there was a ban and the Government failed in it's obligation to notify me that the situation had changed by not calling me or sending me a letter. I have (had) no intention to break the ordinance nor did I do anything maliciously.

No one wants Santa to get a hot-seat.

Just tell them you’re burning The Federalist Papers and The Constitution, and they’ll offer you a can of gasoline as well.

If Nancy makes it home in her big new airplane; I bet there will be a big roaring fire in her fireplace. Same goes for Feinstein.

I assume burning the flag is permitted, even in the fireplace.

This is nothing! The Greens are trying to get the folks in the Adirondacks (upstate NY) to stop burning wood.

Should make Michael Savage happy, as I've heard him complain on the radio about the fumes and smell of wood-burning fireplaces in S.F.
