Looking into this the S-300 components seem to have been around for quite some time. Why would the Israelis have a problem with it?

I don’t know why they’d have too much of a problem with it. The Israelis did have a joint exercise with Greece that enabled the Israelis to test their aircraft against the Greek (originally Cypriot) S-300s.
