Highlighting even further the ratings erosion at CNN in prime time, the Most Trusted Name in News finished in fourth place among cable news outlets during election coverage last night.
Fox News was #1 by a mile, followed by MSNBC, then CNN sister network HLN and CNN in 4th place. They were fourth in both total viewers and the A25-54 demographic.
CNNs 4th place finish last night was only made more glaring because last years election coverage on the network was their best night of all time. They didnt just have more viewers than every other cable news network last year it was the most of all time.
Heres the ratings breakdown in prime time last night:
FNC: 4,043,000 in total viewers (1,130,000 in A25-54)
MSNBC: 974,000 in total viewers (308,000 in A25-54)
HLN: 842,000 in total viewers (341,000 in A25-54)
CNN: 826,000 in total viewers (227,000 in A25-54)

I flicked over last night out of curiousity to see how they would cover this and it was awful, way awful and as for MSNBC that was the first time I have flicked over in months and WOW ...
How on earth could they say that the channel is news when they hardly cover anything which is sort of bad for their messiah.
Nowonder fox is top
well, for God’s sake they had that old dead guy in the suspenders on for much of the evening. If that wouldn’t scare off viewers I don’t know what would!
BBBWWWAAAAAAAAA!
perhaps debunking another SNL skit will help their credibility.
They just don’t have the talent that FNC have. Pure and simple. Watching CNN, MSNBC puts me to sleep. I can only stand to watch 1 minute of those channels.
Why aren’t the advertisers pulling the plug on the CNN bozos?
CNN ratings include all those poor folks trapped at airports utterly tortured by CNN monitors.
I read on a thread last night CNN and MSNBC both stopped covering the election around 11pm, the time Corzine was giving his concession speech.
All of the numbers looked pretty low when you consider them against the total population. They must have been watching “Dancing with the Stars” etc.
Stop rubbing it in. I’m in the Dulles Terminal right now, listening to tunes because CNN is on all the monitors. Terminal B has a Fox News Store, maybe I’ll hike over there to pass the time.
LOL.
And the noise abatement headphones they sell at Brookstone don’t tune out the CNN airport pure torture.
I’ve wondered if the CNN ratings included the hostage airport audiences. And I guess it is some airport authority that contracts with CNN for the feed.
I DEMAND SOME AIRPORT NEWS DIVERSITY.
Yes, I am shouting. Any airport authority bigwigs listening?
Probably not.
I did the same thing, mostly to see if Wolfie & Co. were throwing up as the election results started coming in. Campbell Brown came on at one point, speaking to Michael Steele. When she said to him, “Well, it was a good night for you”, the disgusted look on her face and the dripping derisiveness in her voice said it all. Little Miss yeah-well-it’s-true-my-dad-did-have-to-go-to-jail!
I imagine olberman reverted to a fetal position when the returns came in.
Some hotels and motels are just as bad. I always check before I reserve a room to make sure they carry Fox cable network and the Food Network. I really like Marriott, but they don’t carry those tv stations — at least not here in Florida.
I noticed neither CNN or MSNBC covered the entire acceptance speech by Christie. FNC covered the whole speech. Their coverage was more balance and fair than the other 2 channels. Clearly FNC won big time last night.
