Virginia, New Jersey gubernatorial candidates decline Palin’s offer to campaign for them
Hot Air ^ | Oct 9, 2009 | allahpundit

Conservatives 4 Palin blames Ed Gillespie, who’s soft on Mitt and hard on Palin, for turning Virginia candidate Bob McDonnell against her when he took over the campaign. But is this really so hard to understand that it requires an ulterior motive to explain it?

Romney, Huckabee, Jindal, and Pawlenty have all been to Virginia on McDonnell’s behalf. Proof of a Gillespie vendetta against Palin? Or just basic no-brainer politics in not wanting to “benefit” from a cameo by someone whose favorable rating among independents is 33/59? McDonnell’s sitting on a nine-point lead in a state that broke for Obama last year by six points; why on earth would he risk the upheaval of a Palin appearance, particularly when the Democrats have been trying to caricature him as the same sort of rabid social con that the media caricatured her as?

The hard fact of the matter is that Sarahcuda’s only a clear asset on the trail in a red district where the base isn’t turning out. That’s why she was a good bet in Saxby Chambliss’s run-off in Georgia last year: The GOP knew it had the votes to win the election, they just needed to give dispirited grassroots conservatives a reason to go out and vote. Enter Palin. In purplish states like Virginia (and blue states like New Jersey, needless to say), having her out there becomes a crapshoot because it risks goosing turnout among liberals more than conservatives. In fact, assuming that conservatives stay motivated to send The One a message next year in the midterms, demand for her will probably be low since turnout will be high even without her help. What am I missing here?

And it’s so wonderful here that you left. Could it be all the moderates?

Third Parties only get 1 or 2%, just enough to help the democrats victory.

That's irrelevant considering we don't have a two party system to start. The socialist Democrats won because the OP(formerly the GOP) abandon conservatism thereby losing support from conservatives. We have one big socialist Republicrat party. Another party will restore the two party system.

When you split the Republicans, you get a democrat victory.

Party leaders caused the OP to split from Conservatives long ago.

This is what many FReepers want. They would rather have

democrats as they enjoy the bitching than working with

a republican to clear up Obama’s crap.

The OP grassroots members need to stop whining and moaning conservatives are to blame and accept the fact the OP has no intention of returning to Conservatism. You're losing strategy of returning to such a party is the political version of battered wife syndrome. It is the definition of insanity.

The fact so many Freepers refuse to help you further the OP's movement towards socialism should tell you FR is a Conservative website, not a Republicrat website. Peddling the same strategy that gave control of the White House and Congress to the socialists will not work at FR.

McDonnell, in VA, has a RINO Romneybot (redundant, I know)managing his campaign. See here:

Look people, the bottom line here is that Bob McDonnell has run a nearly flawless campaign with all of the odds against him.

Virginia is NOT a Red State. It is, and has always been a PURPLE state. And no Republican will win without the moderate independent voters.

If the “base” can’t see the value of Bob McDonnell (who is no RINO) over Creigh Deeds, then I question the judgment of the base.

I love Sarah Palin. But she IS a polarizing figure. Were she to come to Virginia the story would be all about her, about her book, about Levi Johnson showing his giblets in Playgirl. It would not be about Bob McDonnell, who happens to be our candidate and will be our next Governor.

And finally, if you’re not from Virginia, please get the hell out of our way.

Peddling the same strategy that gave control of the White House and Congress to the socialists will not work at FR.

If you cannot organize enough people to take back the GOP from the RINOS, what insanity makes you think you are going to organize enough people to set up an viable alternative political party?

No sane rational mind thowns out the solid Conservative work of GOP Conservatives like Inhofe, Coburn, Pence, Bachman, Palin, Sessions et al because of the clownish bath water posturing of the Mcain/Graham style RINO media whores.

The correct strategy is take back the party that is rightfully yours, not splinter into even smaller factions so you are even more politically irrelevant then you currently are. Conservatives can either learn the lesson from Perot and the "Reform" party crack up in the 1990s or be doomed to repeat it.

I'm from Virginia. I'm pro Sarah.

This point of view is exactly right IMHO. I agree completely.

“Added a Republican strategist who follows state politics: “She would be great in Southern primaries or straw polls, but a death knell in Northern Virginia among smart women.”

We're talking about the same woman who drew over 20,000 to a small town in central NEW YORK several months ago..? New Yawkers are supposed to have 'plenty of smarts'.

When she came to Fairfax last year, at least 10,000 people showed up....

Governor Sarah Palin made her first trip to Northern Virginia as the Republican Vice Presidential candidate today. ... Spectators streaming into the Fairfax park said they were coming to see HER.

We have one big socialist Republicrat party. Another party will restore the two party system.

I can't believe I keep seeing this sentiment on FR.

The Pubs got hammered in the last election and conservative stars like Sen DeMint are emerging as the power players in the party. What Pub is voting for the govt take over of health care and the creation of a caste system?

Check out SenateConservatives.com and if you can give money to conservatives.

The GOP has to be run by conservatives, but if we want a majority we have to let rino's in. Look how the Rats gained a majority. It wasn't by running radical leftists in Red districts.

Let them in? The socialist light we're let in long ago at the expense of conservatism! They've been nrunning the show ever since. The big tent mentality failed in past elections and will fail again. It's no wonder a Conservative website like FR has decreasing tolerance for the OP wing of the Republicrat party.

To post 48 - Very well put, I don't understand the disappointment directed towards McDonnell, especially from those who support Mrs Palin.
The election is just weeks away, McDonnell has a good lead and I'll predict he will win somewhat handily.
I also think that Mrs Palin herself is not the least upset or bothered by this alleged 'snub' and she wishes the McDonnell campaign well.

Well stated!

There is no way the GOP candidates want Palin in VA or NJ. Anyone on here that says she would help doesn’t understand politics and how hard it is for a Republican to win in either state. Moderates and Indys don’t like Palin which is a fact and coming into VA OR NJ could throw the race.

Maybe some appreciate Palin becoming the story wherever she goes but not candidates that are trying to win in States that went for ZERO.

Your comments are spot on.

As I wrote on another thread

The Obama enablers aka Third Party delusionals
spend their time bashing Republicans rather
than Marxist Obama.
Do you think this is because they helped elect Obama by sitting home or voting third party election day

My NJ and NY roots go back to the 1600s.

Would your last name happen to be Van Cleef or Frelinghuysen?
