I think this is disgusting. Here's what I wrote to them:

I understand Nike has entered into another advertising agreement with Michael Vick. While some would argue that Mr. Vick has paid his debt to society for his dog fighting conviction the reality is that he also was behind the abduction of stray and family dogs in his neighborhood for training purposes. He's never answered for that. So, I will never purchase another Nike product while he is under contract with your company. This is sad and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I don't really care if they do or not. I would not be less or more likely to buy their products
But to me it seems very foolish on Nike's part. Very bad PR.

What the heck are they thinking?

Nike has announced they've resigned Michael Vick to an advertising contract.

This is about the worst market positioning error that I've seen on the part of a well-known multi-national company in a very long time.

No matter what you may think about Michael Vick personally, he'll be radioactive until the day he dies to millions of consumers. There will forever be something of a "scarlet letter" stamped on this guy.

I think it's suicidal for Nike to associate their name with his.

Congratulations. You certaintly are well within your right to whine, bawl, piss and moan to Nike. I’m sure you got them quaking in their boots.

I’m going fire off a counter e-mail to them, thanking them for not burying someone in the ground who already served their debt to society.

I have no idea what the hell you're talking about. If you're not troubled by this, fine. But don't put words in my mouth. I can do that myself.

here is what I wrote
I am writing to let your company know how disappointed I am in your decision to resign Mike Vick. Your decision illustrates the fact that your company is not interested in standing up for what is right, only in the bottom line. Now that Vick is marketable again your company is full steam ahead. I will not spend a dime on Nike products until this decision is permanently reversed.

Agreed. I love dogs, but the man has spent time in Federal prison over this. He’s paid his debt, and he should be allowed to pick up the pieces and move on.
