ARLINGTON, Texas -- The first game at the Cowboys Stadium set an NFL regular-season attendance record with a crowd of 105,121 on Sunday night.
The game between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys broke the previous mark of 103,467 between Arizona-San Francisco in Mexico City in 2005.
The crowd included up to 30,000 fans in standing-room party plazas at either end of the stadium. The stadium has about 75,000 seats.
The record for an NFL game in the United States was 103,985 for the Super Bowl between Steelers and Rams at the Rose Bowl in January 1980. The largest crowd to watch any NFL game was 112,376 in a preseason matchup between the Cowboys and Houston Oilers in Mexico City in 1994.
There was also a crowd of 105,840 in Chicago for an exhibition between the Bears and a college all-star team in 1947.

Not our problem, lol. Whatever floats their boat.
If people from New york and Kalifornia keep moving to Texas, they’ll pack their stadium every week.
Yes, the Good Socialist Jerry Jones built the stadium himself and with a Half A Billion Dollars from the local tax payer.
Where I come from, a person who takes a Half A Billion Dollars from the tax payers to build a monument to himself is a Damn Communist.
Yes but didn’t voters of Arlington approve the extra taxes in order to pay for the Cowboy Stadium?
So it is your view that if a certain percentage of the population decides to forcibly take money away from the tax payer, in order to line the pockets of a billionaire, that Communism becomes acceptable.
Yeah well, too bad they lost!
That and two consecutive freak bounces— interception off of Witten’s foot and the following bobbled catch in the end zone.
No different than those that pay 100 dollar green fees to smack a little white ball around a cow pasture. Oh .. why is it called golf? The “F word was already taken.
Or those that spend 27 dollar a gallon fuel to put in a car that goes roundy roundy round only making left turns.
Or those that waste hard earned cash to support a place called hollyweird .... giving those people their mega million lifestyles so they can spit on the free market system that got them where they are.
Have you priced an NBA ticket lately, that 79 dollar NFL ticket suddenly is pretty inexpensive. .. to watch prima donna thugs scream “look at me”
I make no bones with those that are easily separated from their money ... last time I looked .. Obammer still hasn’t quite yet killed it (yet) but we have the freedom of choice. And if someone wants to drop 300 bucks going to a sporting event and can afford to do so, well more power to them. It is there for them to enjoy.
I will continue my very inexpensive past time of sailing. Wind is free. Of course the hidden costs make ALL the sporting venues costs combined seem like a real deal. Look in the dictionary ...”boat” .. a circular pit that one throws money into.
Ah well .. as the old saying goes, “Whatever blows your skirt up” .. or .. “Whatever floats your boat”
At lest Arlington built two stadiums that are in use for other purposes year round.
The BUNGLES and Reds hit Cincy for a BILLION dollars for SINGLE purpose toilets ten years ago. can’t believ ithas beenthat long already. 2 monstosities that are used for nothing else .. Mike Brown would not let H.S playoff use it, the marching band migh damage the litt A holes turf that taxpayers paid for. 8 NFL games a year played there .. nothing else.
A billion dollars for two grandiose toilets .. the turds are still floating at either venue. If it is Mike Brown .. flush it down!
The Great American Ripoff
Oh by the way .. it IS my view and I happy tht we have that privilege that we take a vote and the majority that wins decides how to spend money. It is called a republic. Best system in the world .. unless you want to live under the iron fist of gubmint. ... Evidently some do .. it is where we are headed. Thank you Obammer supporters.
It is built to look like a football!
I agree! There is only ONE person to blame. The coach. He should have been fired after last season.
The taxpayer funded portion of the stadium was limited to the first $350,000,000. Anything above that total was paid by the Dallas Cowboys / Jerry Jones.
Total costs have been approximated to be $1.15 billion, so Jones paid out $800,000,000 for the stadium.
Thousands, maybe tens of thousands were there...but certainly not more than 100,000 as the title suggests...
Um, how do you know this? It seems to me that they would have a pretty good idea of how many tickets were sold and how many were scanned on the way in.
Did anyone watch the pregame show with Mr. Blowhard as a host? I tried, but my stomach couldn’t handle hearing Obermann, so I went to bed instead. What was NBC thinking when they hired him for that show???
Oh, is that all?
Well, stealing is OK then, I guess, as long as it's only spare change.
I can’t seem to overcome my early training - I still hate the Cowboys.
No stealing involved. Tax payers voted for it. It wasn't imposed on them. It wasn't passed in some smoke-filled room. It was openly proposed, openly debated, and openly voted upon.
