BOSTON - Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the liberal lion of the Senate and haunted bearer of the Camelot torch after two of his brothers fell to assassins' bullets, has died at his home in Hyannis Port after battling a brain tumor. He was 77.
For nearly a half-century in the Senate, Kennedy was a steadfast champion of the working class and the poor, a powerful voice on health care, civil rights, and war and peace. To the American public, though, he was best known as the last surviving son of America's most glamorous political family, the eulogist of a clan shattered again and again by tragedy.
His family announced his death in a brief statement released early Wednesday.
"We've lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever," the statement said. "We thank everyone who gave him care and support over this last year, and everyone who stood with him for so many years in his tireless march for progress toward justice, fairness and opportunity for all."

Yes, my husband and i pumped our fists at the news. Kennedy
purposely, with malice and forethought, did s much to damage
this country as humanly possible.
Liberal lion?
Hyena, more like.
Teddyville, or Teddyburg has such a nice ring.
No government crook told him when he was going to die. What a blessing for him. RIP.
So who will McCain worship now!?
This is a picture of what happens to trust fund babies who grow up never having to wipe their own @$$e$, never having worked a real job for one day of their pampered lives, and having daddy bigbucks haul their butts out of the trouble that inevitably comes with their hedonistic lifestyles. Daddy's connections usually get them through law school whereupon they retire to politics to yell about helping the working class people they've shi+ on their entire lives.
Ecpect his death to be used to push healthcare reform.
Expect a Wellstone type of memorial and a big push for fast action on healthcare.
I must confess, when I first saw the headline of Kennedy’s passing my first thought was... ‘finally’.
I always thought he was born into a very wealthy and powerful family. He was given everything he had at birth. And that he almost pissed it all away several times. This new tale that he was born into a life of hardship is news to me.
It is going to be a wankfest of biblical proportions over this oligarch murderer.
Looks like he will be drinking Molotov Cocktails from now on.... With his new “Commander in Chief”.
Where he’s going, I’m sure he won’t bump into Mary Jo Kopecne . . . or maybe he will . . . Now we’re going to have to listen to the networks slobber all over this socialist.
Have to listen? So, you have the mandatory telescreen? I have escaped that, so far.
The 'Health Insurance Reform Bill' will be named in his honor too.
You are avenged, Mary Jo. We never forgot what this Son of Belial did to you. And how he got away with it before the law....Until he stood before God!
“When the wicked fall there is a shout in the city.”
“Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not go unpunished.”
The current health care bill needs to be renamed for him..and then soundly defeated.
Let that be his legacy.
Piss on his grave.
I hope Sarah Palin has a good alibi about her whereabouts..............
