Assemblyman Chuck DeVore Comments on Carly Fiorina’s Pending Run for the U.S. Senate

Assemblyman Chuck DeVore Comments on Carly Fiorina’s Pending Run for the U.S. Senate: “Democrats will attack Fiorina’s weaknesses from the start.”

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R-Irvine), the only announced Republican candidate for California’s 2010 U.S. Senate race against Barbara Boxer, today commented on news that Carly Fiorina, the ousted former head of Hewlett-Packard, had formally created an exploratory committee.

Assemblyman DeVore said, “She’s in, as we’ve expected for months, and already she’s showing her colors, hiring a Hollywood PR firm and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s chief moneyman.” Fiorina has already engaged Strategic Perception, Inc., the Hollywood, CA-based business that was the “Chief Creative Consultant” for Senator John McCain’s 2008 presidential run.

“I don’t expect to see Fiorina out talking to the grassroots, taking her case personally to concerned voters,” DeVore added. DeVore has already made 113 appearances to more than 20,000 voters since declaring his candidacy last November. He has garnered support from some 8,000 donors and 58% of California’s elected Republicans, including Congressman Tom McClintock.

“This campaign won’t be decided by slick ads from a Hollywood PR firm, nor by retreads from the '08 McCain campaign, nor by the D.C. party establishment that gave up on California years ago,” DeVore said, “Rather, this campaign will turn on the hearts and minds of working Californians who want to see and speak with the candidates who ask for their votes.”

DeVore’s campaign noted that Fiorina’s views on issues are unclear, and her background makes her an inviting target for liberal senator Barbara Boxer. Fiorina’s public record stands in stark contrast to DeVore’s:

• Media reports have variously described Fiorina as moderate or conservative, having been silent on all of California’s major political battles of the past decade. DeVore has a proven 5-year voting record on the issues that matter to Republican primary voters and has been an active conservative for 28 years.

• The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Fiorina didn’t bother to vote in 13 of the last 18 elections. DeVore has never missed an election.

• Fiorina was a high-profile supporter of the financial bailout which kick-started President Obama’s new era of big government with trillion dollar deficits. DeVore opposed the bailout.

• Fiorina supported the stimulus, so long as the high tech industry got its share of the corporate welfare. DeVore opposed Obama’s stimulus-by-debt.

• According to a 2004 Forbes article, “Trading With The Enemy,” Hewlett-Packard under Fiorina set up an office in Dubai to sell electronic contraband to Iran to meet, “[s]trong demand for ‘anything high tech for military or oil services.’” DeVore is a 24-year Army intelligence veteran who has traveled extensively in the Middle East.

DeVore also served as a Special Assistant for Foreign Affairs under President Reagan’s Defense Secretary, Caspar Weinberger.

Time to offer California a choice between an actual Conservative and a leftist moonbat. Ah-nold Liberals like Fiorina offer NO choice against loons like Boxer.

I’m sure we’ll here the same tired, self-defeating arguments we hear primary after primary after primary on who we should support. :-/

Chuck DeVore (Irvine) is my Assemblyman. He is a solid conservative. Name recognition could be an issue but he could get access to the Newport Beach money machine since he represents that area.

Larry Elder (ex-KABC talk show host) is thinking about running for Senator. He is a libertarian Republican.

Agreed. DeVore over Fiorina in the primary should be a no-brainer for conservatives.

Now we just need a decent candidate for Governor of California instead of the three Arnold clones. Politics1 lists Scott Vyka, Ex-Radio Talk Show Host, as someone who has thrown his hat in the ring. I wonder if he has any chance? It shouldn't be too hard with three RINOs splitting the country club insider vote.

I am in the high tech industry. She has no business running as a Republican. She should run as a democrat. She has done a lot of damage to HP when she was CEO. At one time I would have loved to work at HP but I would not touch that company today ! Her East Coast mentality does not go well with the West Coast style.

Should the choice you suggest be offered to California voters, say hello to another term for Senator Box.

Rush Limbaugh not withstanding.

You have two choices, either you support a Conservative, or you support a liberal. How do liberal RINOs further the Conservative agenda ? How has Ah-nold done out there, besides making his Democrat predecessor, Grey Davis, look like Reagan ? An Ah-nold clone like Fiorina is more of the same failed leftist crap which you’re already getting with Boxer. If you’re going to elect a left-winger, let it be a Democrat so they get the full credit for failure, don’t hang that around the neck of the GOP.

OK, from your mouth to God’s ear...another 6 years with the Box. If you’re happy, maybe I could smile, too.

Fact of the matter is, there is no conservative in the entire state of California who could beat Boxer or Brown for Senator or Governor, unless their names are Carly or Meg...and I doubt if Meg could beat Brown.

And Davis would never look like Reagan, even in make-up. At least Arnold has made the creepy Steinberg threaten to sue him over line vetoes.

Nothing to smile about. It’s despicable the CA GOP has been hijacked by the very people Reagan defeated in ‘66 and again in ‘80. The same moronic mentality that you defeat Democrat Socialists with RINO Socialists... and then what ? What are you beating exactly ? It’s still a victory for the left. And yes, Davis, who was a terrible Governor, but was still a better Governor and more Conservative than Ah-nold, and that only because Ah-nold is the most execrable Governor in 50 years (and that includes being worse than Jerry Brown). If you want a Socialist, vote for an openly-declared Democrat, and stop shoving that garbage down our throats on the Republican label, when its antithetical to everything right.

If you believe Davis was more conservative than Schwartz, then we have absolutely nothing to discuss.
