The second speaker mentioned “a cult of personality” arising around George Bush. I don’t know if he realized what he was saying. Kruschev said that there was a “cult of personality” around Stalin. Bush was no Stalin (thank goodness).

Obama may have a cult following that shows no respect for tradition, law, and the rights of others. Bush could not have such a following because he placed himself after and under our traditions, laws, and our individual rights.

You know, as a former liberal who became a Republican because of President Bush and eventually a conservative despite him, I have to tell you that I got caught up in his cult of personality because he has so despised before he ever even did anything. People attacked him before 9.11. For what - because he wouldn’t sign the hate crimes legislation when he was Gov. Texas? Because his accent is ‘atrocious’? They obliged me to side with the underdog. I came to feel protective of him. And it helped that I had no problem with him setting up a big bug light in Iraq.

So, I won’t begrudge that photographer saying that a cult of personality sprang up around the President.
