Will Obama's health care plan mirror the 1994 Clinton failure?
CNN ^ | July 22, 2009 | Ed Hornick

In 1994, universal health care was a key policy plan for then-President Bill Clinton. It eventually failed.

Now, 15 years later, another Democratic president is taking on the challenge, but facing an uphill battle from not only from Republicans, but from members of his own party.

Will failing to reform health care have the same consequences for Obama's administration as it did for Clinton's?

Like Obama, Clinton came into office with reforming the nation's health care system as one of his top priorities. Then-first lady Hillary Clinton, who headed the administration's task force on reforming the system, delivered a 1,000-page plan that was dubbed "Hillary Care," which required Americans and permanent resident aliens to enroll in a health plan. Other provisions included Americans below a certain income level paying nothing for care.

Republicans decried the plan as overcomplicated and used it to tag the administration as big government-loving, tax-and-spend liberals.

The plan's failure emboldened Republicans and led to huge Democratic losses in the 1994 midterm elections, allowing the GOP to take control of Congress and stymie other Clinton initiatives.

Now, 15 years later, Obama potentially faces a similar fate.

This is part of what I love about being on The Right...

The Left attacked the last Republican president by siding with the terrorists and they failed.

But when we attack the Democratic president it is because of his lousy socialist ideas and agenda and that is good enough to cripple him.

I could never imagine siding with the enemy just to oppose a president. What a terrible way to make politics.

Having CNN actually publish an article with this title should be of grave concern to Obama.

I certianly hope that Obama care will meet the same fate as the Hillary care attempt to have the government control our health, medical care and life.

No it will pass. On the quick before the Sheeple realize they are being sheared. All they need is a couple RINOS for cover.

Could the headlines "it'll fail" be a scheme to reduce pressure to stop it, thereby allowing it to pass? ObamaCare Jokes Obama Jokes

God I love being out of power. 1993-1994 was the most FUN I had in the last 14 years especially Bush. If Mccain has won he would cuts deals AND republicans would get the blame.

I don't know about that, looks like the Republican may hold ranks on this one and we have enough defections of Democrats. You won’t have your Perry Mason moment though, with the stakes this high Pelosi won't allow a floor vote if she doesn’t have it in the bag. She schedules a floor vote on this bill in its current form and my friend I agree with you.

Egad! Don't get me wrong, I am not a fan of HRC, but by the looks of things Hillary is getting more attractive with time.

Another failiure in the making, just like in 1993. 2010 is the new 1994. Please see my tagline.

We could see 93-94 look like a day at the beach when it comes to 09-10.

It may be that the American people, many out of work with little relief in sight, are more desperate for failed socialist policies than they were in 1993.
