Yoon wants term limit for office of the mayor

At-Large City Councilor and mayoral challenger Sam Yoon says he’ll serve no more than two terms if elected mayor and supports implementing term limits for the office of the mayor. Mayor Thomas Menino, one of Yoon’s three mayoral rivals-the others are South Ender Kevin McCrea and fellow At-Large Councilor Michael Flaherty, will end his current term as the longest-running mayor the city has ever seen, regardless of the outcome of this fall’s election.

"If eight years is long enough for the President of the United States, then it should be long enough for the Mayor of Boston," said Yoon. "Politicians, just like everything else, have a shelf life. After two terms, staleness begins to creep into administrations. Term limits ensure fresh leadership and a healthier democracy."
Yoon thinks term limits will increase the productivity of the mayor’s office.

"If a mayor had a set time of eight years to carry out his or her agenda, there would be more done and more accomplished in the mayor’s office. There needs to be a sense of urgency in city government," said Yoon.

Menino said last week in a meeting with reporters in his City Hall office that he thinks term limits have hurt California, because of a lack of experienced leaders in office, and that he doesn’t believe they should be set for the office of the mayor. McCrea has long been a proponent of term limits, and has promised to try to institute them within his first 100 days in office should he be elected.

Term limits can be implemented through a home rule petition in the state legislature or a ballot initiative. Yoon’s office said it’s weighing both options.

"The era of machine politics is over," said Yoon. "In the 21st century, we do not need mayors who become institutions and use the power of their office to build a patronage system that ensures their re-election every four years."

This guy is endorsed by the radical left wing website The Daily Kos.

He is asking them to help him get elected.

Let's expose all candidates that are affiliated with that anti-American nasty vicious website that trashes children of conservatives and disabled people with glee and self rightous dignation.

Kos is one of the leftists websites that is attacking Free Reublic and has attacked Sarah Palin's infant son.

I know McKrea and he is a lunatic. My girlfriend dated him and he ended up cheating on her. She found out when he cancelled their date and did not click his cell phone off and she spent the next hour listening to him make love to another woman!!!!

I don’t know much about Yoon but he is well liked and different in an honest type of way.

Menino has to go though!

Liked by whom besides you?

Sorry, honest and affiliated with daily kos doesn't compute.

Menino has to go huh?

And the "liked and honest" Yoon is your idea of a good replacement?

Do you know anything about the kos website?

I don't want you to hate him

I know that Yoon is endorsed by daily kos.

And he posts there.

Plus he is a liberal

That's three strikes. I prefer conservatives.

You mileage may vary.

It’s extremely difficult to defeat an incumbent politician, and, so far, whenever Menino does have opponents, he ends up still winning very easily. I would be very surprised if Menino is ever defeated, and he has done plenty of screw-ups throughout the entire duration that he has been “da mayah” of Boston. Besides, Howie Carr has, both, a website and a radio segment where he often makes fun of Menino, just for what he says and how he says things on a variety of issues.

I guess the Romney stink is too fresh! Romeny was a Republican and now we have socialized health care in Massachusetts and we will soon need a bailout to pay for it!

I know we will never get rid of Menino. The same people who keep voting Ted Kennedy in do it every time. What do you want from a state that votes to ban dog racing (without any plan for where the dogs will go), decriminalize weed, but voluntarily vote to keep paying a 5% state income tax!!!???

And what has Menino done for us lately? period! Mumbles should have been thrown out of office long before now....he is an embarassement, as for Yoon, I haven't heard anything bad about him, yes he's a lib but a lib proposing term limits is unusual no? This Yoon guy can't be any worse than what we currently have, it would be nice to see a republican run, I believe there is one but his name escapes me - I think he was on Howie's show recently or was that a gubernatorial candidate? What with deval, mumbles, gigilo and the swimmer, my head is spinning!

We could open the yellow pages and point to a name and whoever would be better than the current clowns in office. It does not get any more pathetic than Menino, Deval, Kennedy, Frank, and Kerry.

Menino, not much.

Just wait what Yoon will do for you. He could eclipse Deval Patrick on the moonbat scale.

So why are you shilling for Yoon. He's no different. I would rather vote for none of the above.

I’m not shilling for anyone. I just refuse to base anything on Kos. What are you a McKrea supporter? Wouldn’t be surprised at all.

I look at politicians as either liberal/leftist or conservative.

Romney is the former.

Of course Romney is no conservative! Would a conservative be elected in Massachusetts? No. All we get are Rinos and liberals so pick one because that is the choice.

Running a Conservative would be a nice change of pace, if only the DEAD GOP would stop the bullcrap and do it.

Is Ralph Martin the Republican that you are thinking of, because he was mentioned many times in the past as someone who was going to run for Mayor of Boston.
