California: Jobless claims surge to near-record pace

A hoped-for summer drop in California unemployment has failed to materialize this year, with jobless claims in recent weeks nearing their January highs, reports the state Employment Development Department.

Claims had been trending slightly downward to 336,317 in April after skyrocketing to 525,000 in January.

“The typical pattern is the unemployment insurance activity declines in the summer,” says Loree Levy, an EDD spokeswoman. “Not so this year. We are back near January’s pace.”

The NEW ballad of Jed Clampett
Come and listen to a story ‘bout a man named Jed
Poor oil entrepreneur barely kept his family fed
Then one day he was working for some food,
And up through the crowd come a bumbling fool (Arnold that is, RINO gold, more taxes please)

Well the first thing you know old Jed’s taxes are to much to bear,
Kin folk said Jed move away from there!
Said California is no place for you to be
So they loaded up the truck and they moved from Beverly (go’n back to the Hills they are, fish’n holes, country and western stars)

Well now it’s time to say goodbye to Jed and all his kin
They would like to thank you folks for kindly dropping in
You’re all invited back again to their new locality
To have a heaping helping of their hospitality
(Redneck Hillbillies, is what the press call ‘em now, Clingers of bibles and guns and to Obama no bow! Nice folks Y’all come back now, ya hear?)

Still the “fruits and vegetables” rot in the fields, and our hi-tech economy cannot get by without H1-Bs. sarcasm intended

A whole lot of change, but no hope.

I’m by no means a “birther”, and as someone who wasn’t born in the US, I kinda think the born-in-one-of-the-57-states thing is unfair. Suppose the Gipper’s mum had popped up to Vancouver to see her cousin and gave birth prematurely, we’d have been denied the best president this country has ever had.

But I reckon it will come in handy this time.

After the mid-terms, he’ll be so up to his neck in South Side-style sleaze, economic catastrophe, political corruption, and international humiliation that even his own party will want him gone.

That’s when the birth certificate will come up, the clincher for some other scandal. “Oh, and now that we’ve had a look, he’s not entitled to be president anyway. On your way, Big Ears.” He’ll be gone like that.

Mark my words!

For the first six months, the state has received nearly 3.3 million claims for unemployment compared to nearly 1.5 million last year.

While the Dems are experts at undermining economies to create an artificial need for "change"...

...the Dems are truly clueless that their constant vilification and punishment of the producers within our Golden State won't improve our economy now that they are in charge.

Here in California, the Dems in the legislature still want to "tax the rich", as if there were many rich folks left (that would stay in California.)

These "rich folks" would ordinarily employ people.

Who would employ people in such a hostile and uncertain environment?

Clueless?

Oui.

So - how’s that “hope” and “Change” working out for you?

Haven't you heard- the stimulus is working?

If it wasn't for Obama these people would not have been able to get unemployment benefits.... the states were broke and we printed more money to give to the states... YA Hope

57 States? Indeed there are.

Or so my president has told me!

No, he said there are 60 states. He said he had already visited 57 states; was planning to see too more; and had one (Hawaii) that they were not going to let him go visit.

He made a mental math error.

He was originally going to say he had been to all 50 states... Then realized that he had 2 more to go and one he wasn’t going to.

So he tried to subtract 3 from the 50 and got 57 instead of 47. Must be that new math.

That's not the way it works. Born of two US citizen parents you are a US NATURAL born citizen no matter where you are born. One US citizen parent there are restrictions that apply, these restrictions apply to Bozo the WH clown if he wasn't born in the US. The restrictions have been well covered on FR and I am sure you are aware of them, but choose to ignore them. No matter where the "Gippers" was born we would have had him for a President.

My company, founded in San Diego, is moving IT operations to Orlando, FL. The principal reason is lower labor cost. Lower real estate costs and taxes are other factors. IT employees who don't want to relocate (or aren't offered a relocation deal) will find themselves seeking alternate employment...including outside the company. More CA jobs lost.

I didn’t “set you straight”. I just let you know you aren’t fooling people on FR.
