Israel has warned Iran of catastrophic consequences if it attacks the Jewish state with weapons of mass destruction.

Israel's national security advisor says Iran will be destroyed if its dares to launch a nuclear attack on the Jewish state.

In an interview published Friday in the Hebrew daily Ha'aretz, Uzi Arad said Israel must have "tremendously powerful" weapons to deter or retaliate for a nuclear strike.

That will be a little too late, I think. Islam might be willing to sacrifice 80 million Iranians in order to get rid of Israel.

“That will be a little too late, I think. Islam might be willing to sacrifice 80 million Iranians in order to get rid of Israel.”

Exactly, and they’ve said so.

Besides, it isn’t so easy to “destroy” a country that is as large as Iran and isn’t highly urbanized and industrialized. I don’t think even 200 1 megaton nuclear warheads would do it.

Iran will NOT launch a first strike on Israel.

The gibberish nutjob is talking is to impress upon the Muslim world. They are cynics... not suicidals. The mullah leaders are willing to use peons as cannon-fodder, but they have NO interest in getting blown up themselves. You never see the mullahs sacraficing themselves.

The islamic regime is interested in:

a) cementing it’s power (as we have seen it’s pretty shaky)

b) blackmailing the world

c) deterring attacks

Nuclear weapons (or just the capability to produce them) will guarantee these three things.

With nukes they can feel safe from attacks, and are able to hold the region hostage, control the oil flow and prices and demand concessions from the West.

The warfare against Israel will continue through terrorist proxies like Hezbullah and Hamas.

The islamic regime want’s to be a regional great power... not blown up.

Unfortunately, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has repeatedly told that that there must be “cataclysmic events” to prepare the way for Shiite Muslims’ awaited messiah (The reappearance of the 12th Imam).

Also, several top-level iranians have openly told that Israel should be nuked. This includes one of the former “reformist” Iranian presidents in his speech in 2001.

The mullahs have said as much. The average Persian is going to have to act out of self preservation or face the consequences. Maybe most of them agree with the mullahs.

I still agree with the idea of Israel increasing their deterrence level.

The average Persian since several months is trying to topple the regime, but are ignored by President O-Zero. They have neither an interest in living any longer under the regime nor do they want to serve as their cannon-fodder. It's bad if one doesn't have the means to resist an totalitarian regime.

You probably heard of Taqqiya, the Shia concept of deceiving your enemy for your gain.

If the regime would be interested first and only in nuking Israel, they would have quietly finished their bomb and launched them without fanfare.

They aren't that stupid. If that would have been their goal, they wouldn't have blown the whistle so loud. Not only Taqqiya but also simple strategical thinking demands that.

The islamic rhetoric is bluster to impress the Muslim world and to assert that Iran is the only power to "liberate Palestine". The loud rhetoric also serves of testing the water of Western/Israeli determination. The mullahs must feel pretty reassured over the lame reaction.

They will build their bomb, or at least stop at the brink of being able to do so within a short time, to blackmail the world. They can demand high oil-prices, strategic concessions and be safe from attacks.

That way they will achieve their goals of being the regional dominant power, dominating Iraq, Syria and Lebanon and continue/increase their attacks on Israel through terrorist proxies.

If you think they will launch a nuke... don't hold your breath.

Now what I say doesn't mean that it's not a clear threat. It is! But not in the shape many apparently expect. The islamic regime being able to blackmail the world is bad enough.

“If the regime would be interested first and only in nuking Israel, they would have quietly finished their bomb and launched them without fanfare.”

Iran tried to finish the bomb quietly. It was exposed by a group of Iranian exiles. Iranian government tried to keep it secret at all cost.

Once they have the bomb and related material, they can hand out the technology to Hezbollah, Hamas or any other Friends-of-Obamambi groups.

You may be able to sleep well with Iranian bomb, but I doubt Israel can trust that Iranian are not using it. They ignored Hitler’s rants about destroying jews in Europe and it did not play out too well. Now they have learned their lesson.

Good to see someone who gets it. There is an adage "The threat is sometimes more effective than the execution." which applies here.

The metaphorical “arab street” will tend to root for nutjob. But the Arab leaders for the time being hope for Iran’s nuclear ambitions to be foiled.

They will be held hostage by Iranian nukes and they don’t want to see the Shia republic control the Sunni monarchies/republics.

If Iran is nuclear armed the Arabs and Turks will themselves start to arm themselves with nukes. That’s the real Pandora’s box here... the whole region will be nuclear armed.

Instability Yipeeyayeah!

“The islamic regime want’s to be a regional great power... not blown up.”

Your words would be dead on if we were talking about the Soviets, who had cynicism as the fundamental of their Philosophy. But your words capture the Islamists, who have fanaticism as their fundamental, only up to the point of that fanaticism. I think that there are far more absolutely depraved and Hate demented psychos in Islam than anywhere else on earth (and THAT'S saying something) The HATE of the Jew that they haver invited into their souls will drive them to places the Soviets weren't stupid enough to go. Think Hitler.

Yes I agree that they cannot accept the threat and ensuing blackmail.

But I gave my assertion that Iran will not first strike. They gain WAY more by the threat alone. (They want to gain great power status, not "martyrdom". The leaders that is... the peons are not their concern.)

Iran tried to finish the bomb quietly. It was exposed by a group of Iranian exiles. Iranian government tried to keep it secret at all cost.

Even if so they would try to placate the fears by insisting that it's peaceful and leave out the rhetoric and bluster.

They would finish the project and launch it. The propagandstic bragging would then come after the established fact.

A dog that barks doesn't bite.
