Fur starts to fly as Pet Airways takes to the skies

The fur is really starting to fly, now that the first pet-only airline in the U.S. is taking to the skies.

Pet Airways, which will fly from airports in five American cities starting next week -- with plans to expand into Canada next year -- is focused entirely on pet "pawsengers."

In fact, human passengers aren't even allowed on the planes, said CTV's travel expert Loren Christie.

"It's actually an airline only for pets," Christie told CTV's Canada AM.

"It's not just pet friendly, you actually can't fly on this airline unless you're an animal. The only humans allowed on are the pet attendants."

An estimated one million animals fly each year in America, and Pet Airways' goal is to capitalize on that traffic.

I've taken my mini-doxie in the cabin with me and put his carrier under the seat in front of me. He doesn't like it, but he knows I'm with him. I don't think he'd fare very well if he were put on a plane with a stranger.

I'd rather see something like this where they allow the owner to fly with the pet, but only humans with pets be allowed to fly.

Someone actually put up the cash for this?

You can put almost small any animal on an airline already.

Bankrupt within a year, max.

I wish that they would serve a city near us. We looked into taking in a dog that my son’s family had brought home from a ranch. The cost wasn’t too bad but the connections worried us for the dog’s safety.

Continental does a good job with animals, I’ll bet this venture doesn’t make it.

Why can’t any airline get this right?

People and their pets can fly together?? What a novel concept?

People don’t want to be separate from the pets. Many pets stress out in weird situations. Just keep the people and their pets together. Common sense. Some pets might be able to handle flying in the pressurized baggage areas okay. Many will do a lot better (smaller ones) under a seat with their owner.

Man, the airlines just cannot get this concept figured out. Only one so far seems to have gotten it right.

Need more info.
This would interest me only if there is a first class section to allow for better meals, cookies, ice water and dog grooming options while in flight.

Also need to know type of aircraft, when built, how many hours in air and is the transport to and from the terminal heated and air conditioned?

My chihuahua is picky about who she flys with and won’t mix with commoners so we need more details.

I think that this is a sign that we all ready have collapsed. The pet airline and the blueberry facials that Petco is doing this month in grooming parlors are sure signs of it.

How much do you think TrubleMEaker could barf up on a plane?

Mojo would also have a “Mile High” paternity suit filled against him.

We need to start a movement to get Sawmill granted some kind of diplomatic status or something.
