'Earth 2100': the Final Century of Civilization? Planet at Risk: Experts Warn Population Growth, Resource Depletion, Climate Change Could Bring Catastrophe in Next Century By ALEXA DANNER

May 29, 2009—

It's an idea that most of us would rather not face -- that within the next century, life as we know it could come to an end. Our civilization could crumble, leaving only traces of modern human existence behind.

It seems outlandish, extreme -- even impossible. But according to cutting edge scientific research, it is a very real possibility. And unless we make drastic changes now, it could very well happen.

Experts have a stark warning: that unless we change course, the "perfect storm" of population growth, dwindling resources and climate change has the potential to converge in the next century with catastrophic results.

Watch "Earth 2100," a two-hour television event, Tuesday, June 2, at 9 p.m. ET.

In order to plan for the worst, we must anticipate it. In that spirit, guided by some of the world's experts, ABC News' "Earth 2100," hosted by Bob Woodruff, will journey through the next century and explore what might be our worst-case scenario.

But no one can predict the future, so how do we address the possibilities that lie ahead? Our solution is Lucy, a fictional character devised by the producers at ABC to guide us through the twists and turns of what the next 100 years could look like. It is through her eyes and experiences that we can truly imagine the experts' worst-case scenario -- and be inspired to make changes for the better.

Or it could be the birth pangs of real civilization.

In the more near term, I'm worried about the American way of life ending under the Obama Administration!

Used to promote Global Warming.....oops, I mean Climate Change. They can’t even predict the weather for tomorrow, let alone what will happen in 2100.

I’m certainly more concerned about the tyranny of the left than I am about “climate change” as far as the destruction of civilization goes.

In 1968 (is it really 40 years old already?), Dr. Paul Ehrlich wrote:

Now we have scaremongers about food, global warming and resources. And NOBODY ever states that Ehrlich has been proven a boob.

The simple fact of the matter is that our "cutting edge scientific research" will most likely pale in comparison to what our descendants will know and will be able to do in 100 years. Scientific knowledge and resulting technologies are growing exponentially. The assumption that we can somehow do something to the Earth that our far more advanced descendants can't undo if they please is ridiculous. This, of course, leaves aside the perfectly valid question of how much we are actually doing to the Earth.

Okay here we go again. Unless and until we accept world socialism with a group of elites telling each and everyone of us how to run our lives, we are doomed. This is where all the communists and left radicals went after the Berlin Wall came down. They have witnessed the failure of communism and the lackluster economies of socialism. So they will try and achieve their goals under the guise of radical environmentalism. These Fabians never give up.

Actually, no... not according to the Bible...

There’s going to be a certain amount of time (from now until however long it takes) for certain countries to get lined up to attack Israel and for things to get lined up in the world for the 7-year Tribulation time to start.

After that 7-year Tribulation, then Jesus, the Messiah of Israel returns to earth, sets up the Kingdom of God, ruling from a government in Israel, and He is ruling over all the nations of the world from Israel, from that point forward.

Civilization continues for another 1,000 years after that, with the subsequent part of the story (of what happens next) told in Revelation 20 and on...

So, we’ve got a *lot more time* left for civilization yet...

I’ve heard some preachers say that there are a lot of people worried about what mankind is going to do to the planet in harming and destroying it. Those preaches say that these people *don’t know what Jesus is going to do to the world*....

He just about absolutely destroys the world, doing a lot more damage to the ecology than any of these Enviro-whackos could ever imagine for mankind doing... :-)

You said — Now we have scaremongers about food, global warming and resources. And NOBODY ever states that Ehrlich has been proven a boob.

Actually, I would imagine that during the Millennial Kingdom of Jesus, the Messiah of Israel on this world — we might have a population of about 60 Billion people.

I wonder what these guys would say about that?

Can you imagine how much greater our lives would be if as a century or two ago, we had to wait a week to get a message, or a month to hear of news from Washington, or a month or two to receive word from abroad?

You were saying of the experts — Experts Warn Population Growth, Resource Depletion, Climate Change Could Bring Catastrophe in Next Century”

Well, actually God’s judgments during the Tribulation time would do a lot more in the way of *catastrophe* on the environment and resources and so on — than anything that we could ever do to ourselves... :-)

I would be more concerned about those judgments during the 7-year Tribulation which will wipe out about 4 Billion people or more (of our 6 Billion plus population now). That should be of more concern to these guys, actually...

Over the years I’ve been told...

We will run out of oil before you turn 16. You will never drive a car.

Humanity will starve in massive famines before 1980.

The streets will run red with blood due to Reagan’s warmongering.

The seas will die before the year 2000.

Lake Michigan’s water levels will rise so far by 1990 that the cities along the coast will all flood.

Lake Michigan’s water levels will drop so far that there will be no more shipping.

These were things taught by teachers and professors while I was in school. I will no longer listen to hysterical catastrophists.

And unless we make drastic changes now, it could very well happen.

If their alarmist warnings are indeed accurate, it still begs the question of whether we are wise enough to figure out what the appropriate drastic changes are and determined enough to implement them. I will also note that there is remarkably little argument on the warmist side as to what the appropriate changes might be.

It is also very odd that the necessary drastic changes always correlate so perfectly with what liberals would prefer if there were no crisis. How unbelievable is that!
