War hero who had child porn to learn fate [John Kerry & Dems stand by child porn pervert]
San Diego Union - Tribune ^ | 5/3/09 | Greg Moran

Posted on 05/03/2009 5:11:50 PM PDT by NormsRevenge

FEDERAL COURT — War hero, activist, former high-ranking Pentagon official – Wade Sanders has led a life full of peril and achievement, of great highs and deep lows.

Just a few years ago, Sanders stood onstage at the Democratic National Convention as his fellow veteran, Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., accepted his party's presidential nomination.

That was a high point.

Tomorrow afternoon in federal court in San Diego likely will be a low point for him.

Sanders, 69, is scheduled to be sentenced after pleading guilty in December to possession of child pornography.

He could face as much as 10 years in prison after federal agents found child pornography on several of his home computers.

Just as Sanders once stood behind Kerry, the senator is now standing behind him. In one of dozens of letters submitted on behalf of Sanders, Kerry urged U.S. District Judge Thomas Whelan to weigh Sanders' record of service and community work when making a decision on sentencing.

The hearing promises to be dramatic, with more than 50 people lining up in support of Sanders. In addition to Kerry, they include former U.S. senator and war hero Max Cleland of Georgia, who headed the Veterans Administration under President Jimmy Carter.

Also offering support are former Rep. Lynn Schenk of San Diego, a lawyer and longtime friend of Sanders; and numerous retired Navy officers, friends and relatives of Sanders. Bernie Jones, the Opinion page editor of The San Diego Union-Tribune, where numerous commentaries by Sanders have been published over the years, also wrote a letter opposing a prison term.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Alessandra Serano is seeking a 63-month sentence for Sanders, as well as a requirement that he register as a sex offender and be on 10 years of supervised release after he gets out of prison.

The case against Sanders started in October 2007, when an FBI agent went online to search for people sharing child pornography using a file-sharing computer network.

The agent entered a search term widely used by pornographers, and among the results returned was one that eventually linked to Sanders' home computer.

A few months later, FBI agents raided Sanders' San Diego home. In court papers, Serano said three computers seized in the raid had child pornography on them.

Sanders and his attorney, Knut Johnson, say that Sanders was downloading the images as part of a research project on the subject. In her court papers, Serano noted that at the time of the raid, Sanders never told this to FBI agents.

Serano also said no notes or other materials relating to a research project were found. In a meeting with prosecutors before he pleaded guilty, Sanders did produce three pages of handwritten notes that were undated, she said.

Sanders also is arguing that his work was a product of an obsessive-compulsive disorder he has developed. He claims it is a product of post-traumatic stress disorder, which he said is a crippling residue of his combat service.

Sanders was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart in his military career. He led a Swift boat on numerous missions in Vietnam, often coming under intense fire and harrowing circumstances.

In a 13-page statement to Whelan, Sanders talks at length about that experience and how it shaped him. “There is a part of me that died in Vietnam and now, for the first time in my life I am facing that reality,” it begins.

One symptom of PTSD is compulsive behavior, Johnson argued. He said Sanders became “obsessed about writing an article or otherwise uncovering the source of child pornography.”

In his letter, Kerry lauded Sanders' record in the war and after, when Sanders became a prominent advocate for veterans' causes.

“The Wade Sanders I know is someone who has always put love of country first,” Kerry wrote. “He's been an advocate for his friends, his fellow veterans, his state and his country.”

“He lost his limbs serving his country in Vietnam. That makes him a hero in my book.

Then you clearly have low standards...”

Really?

“Those who put themselves in danger on our behalf deserve our respect.

Get thee to the DU, you’re on the wrong website.”

I’m sorry. Let me correct myself. We should not respect those who put themselves in danger on our behalf.
Okay?

Democrat pedophiles who are former military are “war heroes.”

Republican criminals like Duke Cunningham who are former military are “disgraced Repubican officials.”

The first thing I want to know on these “child porn” cases is whether the pics the guy has are of 17 year olds or 8 year olds. IMHO there is a HUGE difference. One is merely illegal, the other is perverted and they should be treated accordingly. The first may be a sex offender, but it is the second that is the pedophile.

I had turned it off and forgot to turn it back on. I turn it off on occasion if I simply cannot get the search results I expect. There are certain seemingly innocent phrases and words that Google does something with, and it can be frustrating. I leave it in the “on” position by default because the opposite is much more widely true-when the filter if off, that is, innocent and normal words will give much more garbage.

You can predict in advance and be mentally prepared and just not click on the links by reading the verbiage, but in this case, i had it off, and unknowingly went right into the images section to browse for an image of a milking machine, and...as you said...Yikes!

So, somehow war heros and politicians get special treatment when they commit crimes—even one as despicable as enjoying, creating and distributing child porn—according to you. Please explain your logic.

Wise up Sparky, your haphazard approach to 'respecting' those that you believe put themselves in danger on our behalf is in fact insulting to those who truly were in danger, paid the price (sometimes fatal) and if you equate a bonehead move like picking up an unexploded grenade WHILE UNDER ENEMY FIRE (which is exactly what Cleland did), with a true act of heroism (example, crawling on your hands and knees through sniper and artillery fire to rescue your wounded buddies), then your priorities aren't just screwed up, they're non-existent.

By your logic, the suicide jumper who leaps off a suspension bridge into the water below is every bit the hero as the rescue workers who are trying to talk him out of it, after all, they ALL had to climb way up high, right?

Give your damn head a shake.

Now just in the interest of fairness here, Max Cleland IS in fact a hero, but NOT for essentially blowing his own limbs off:

"Cleland volunteered as communications officer for 2d Battalion, 12th Cavalry, which had been chosen for Operation Pegasus - the relief of Khe Sanh - in April 1968.

Captain Cleland was on a mountaintop with his Signal team to set up a radio relay when he lost his legs and right arm to a grenade explosion. For Khe Sanh he received the Bronze Star for meritorious service and Silver Star for gallantry in action."

The awards of star medals are unrelated to the grenade explosion accident which caused Cleland's injuries. The Silver Star Medal Citation references action on 4 April. The grenade explosion was on 8 April (1968).

Silver Star Medal Citation

"Captain Cleland distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 4 April 1968 … during an enemy attack near Khe Sanh. When the battalion command post came under a heavy enemy rocket and mortar attack, Captain Cleland, disregarding his own safety, exposed himself to the rocket barrage as he left his covered position to administer first aid to his wounded comrades. He then assisted in moving the injured personnel to covered positions. Continuing to expose himself, Captain Cleland organized his men into a work party to repair the battalion communications equipment, which had been damaged by enemy fire. His gallant action is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army."

So to put this matter to rest once and for all, is Max Cleland a hero?

Yes he is indeed.

But NOT for picking up a live grenade which was the epitome of poor judgment, especially under enemy fire. Cleland should have been hitting the deck with the rest of his men.

... Kerry urged U.S. District Judge Thomas Whelan to weigh Sanders' record of service and community work when making a decision on sentencing.

So the new liberal policy is if you deliver meals on wheels, support liberal politicians, and do "community" work, you can rape children? Or at least watch them being raped?

Why am I NOT surprise Kerry had a pedophile standing with him?

Congrats, Kerry. Nice company you keep.

June, 1970 -- Kerry joins Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW), a national veterans group that is part of the Peoples Coalition for Peace and Justice. The PCPJ is a broad coalition of local and national organizations, including the Communist Party, USA, "committed to conducting demonstrations aimed at ending the war in Indochina, and poverty, racism and injustice at home." The VVAW, CCI and PCPJ all have headquarters at 156 Fifth Avenue in New York City. VVAW Executive Secretary Al Hubbard, a former Black Panther, is also on the coordinating committee of the PCPJ. Hubbard soon appoints Kerry to the VVAW's Executive Committee, bypassing the normal election process.

FYI: The Black Panthers were revolutionary communists/domestic terrorists.

From the Maoist Internationist Movement:

From the article: REVOLUTIONARY HEROES

"On May 1st, May Day [1969], the day of the gigantic Free Huey rally, two of Alioto's top executioners vamped on the brothers from the Brown Community who were attending to their own affairs. These brothers, who are endowed with the revolutionary spirit of the Black Panther Party defended themselves from the racist pig gestapo.

Pig Joseph Brodnik received his just reward with a big hole in the chest. Pig Paul McGoran got his in the mouth which was not quite enough to off him.

The revolutionary brothers escaped the huge swarm of pigs with dogs, mace, tanks and helicopters, proving once again that "the spirit of the people is greater than the man's technology."

To these brothers the revolutionary people of racist America want to say, by your revolutionary deed you are heroes, and that you are always welcome to our camp."

November 22, 1970 -- During a fund-raising tour for GI deserters, Vietnam Veterans Against the War and the Black Panthers, Jane Fonda is quoted in the Detroit Free Press as telling a University of Michigan audience:

"I would think that if you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would someday become communist," and "The peace proposal of the Viet Cong is the only honorable, just, possible way to achieve peace in Vietnam."

The photo is genuine. Here is what Jane Fonda herself had to say about it:

"My reaction is that the American people have had it with the big lie. Any attempt to link Kerry to me and make him look bad with that connection is completely false. We were at a rally for veterans at the same time. I spoke, Donald Sutherland spoke, John Kerry spoke at the end. I don't even think we shook hands."

Nice post ETL, and although you may already have been aware of it, I recall that day when John F’in Kerry and his motley crew descended on Washington, and I remember learning that while his fellow ‘Vets against the war’ were camped out here, there and everywhere in the elements, Kerry himself was hunkered down in some swank Georgetown townhouse owned by one elite intellectual antiwar type or another, I remember because I was covering it for my high school newspaper, and when my journalism teacher axed my article and totally re-wrote it, I said “screw journalism, they’re just a bunch of whores”, i.e., I had written an article asking how much aid and comfort the Communists were obtaining from these demonstrations, with the title “When Does Protest Become Sedition?”, I was a wise-ass little right winger, even then, lol - that article never saw the light of day.

There was one of these pervs in my neighborhood who was downloading this stuff. He got 5 years in the slam. That seems to be pretty standard in these cases. This prosecutor isn’t doing anything out of the ordinary in this case. Happens all the time. Only this is a connected dim so all bets are off.

"Ummmmm, if this idiot was a friend of Bush, or Palin, do you think this would be breaking news on all the networks?"

If this were Bush or Palin's second-cousin's brother's roommate's uncle, this would be breaking on the front pages.

He led a Swift boat on numerous missions in Vietnam, ..................... I wonder what his crew thought of him then, could he have shown any tendency toward perversion then? Then again would any of them dare speak up and face the character assassination by the MSM??

I had written an article asking how much aid and comfort the Communists were obtaining from these demonstrations, with the title “When Does Protest Become Sedition?”

There is so much friggin evidence out there it's ridiculous. And much of it comes straight from the commie websites themselves. Every one of the so-called "anti-war" groups around today, like then, is organized by communists.

World Can't Wait, Not In Our Name = Revolutionary Communist Party

A.N.S.W.E.R., Troops Out Now = Party for Socialism and Liberation/Workers World Party

United for Peace and Justice = Communist Party USA/Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism

Technically guilty.

Too bad the Senate wasn’t handling the trial for him.

It wouldn’t have ever made it this far.
