Today, Texas State Sen. Rodney Ellis (D) rightly condemned his state's very fringe Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) for his unconstitutional and outrageously dishonest rant about Texas secession:
"There are some issues that simply should not be legitimized in any way, shape or form, and secession is one of them," said Ellis. "By not rejecting out of hand the possibility of secession, Governor Perry is taking a step down a very dangerous and divisive path encouraged by the fringe of Texas politics.
"It was only 12 years ago that Texas had a deadly stand-off with those urging secession. Governor Bush stood up to those fringe elements. I urge Governor Perry to ramp down the rhetoric and state unequivocally -- as Governor Bush did in the 1990s -- that secession is not only not an option, it isn't going to be part of the political discussion.
Indeed, not only was Perry shamefully dishonest about Texas having left open the ability to secede after it joined the union in 1845 (the agreement was that it could split into five states, not leave), but the U.S. Supreme Court handled this very issue back in 1869 in the matter of Texas v. White when it made clear that unilateral secession is unconstitutional.
Though, as I've said before, with the exception of the great city of Austin, I wouldn't shed many tears to see Texas leave. If they did, the Republican Party would not win another presidential election in my lifetime, it would ensure an even more Democratic-controlled U.S. Senate and House, and we'd solve about half of the challenge of our Mexico border problems.

A lot can change in 20 years, twinkle toes. We're tired of screwing around. You're welcome to leave Texas any time...I'll take your house for my family when we move in!
Hey Senator Ellis, you chump . . .you might want to check out the post 2004 election comments from your own Sen. Feinstein before you shoot off your big mouth about “fringe”
Black politician. Nothing more has to be said.
Yo guv, throw this trash out whenst you become a nation.

No surprise.
Career liberal Black politician (just a little more to be said.)

You could have prominent states like; Northeast Texas, Central Texas, The Texas Panhandle etc.
Yup, you have it correct. Texas would maintain the same number in the House of Representatives, however Texas (once split into 5 states) would add 8 Senators (they already have 2, right?) and the USA would not be allowed to have a vote in the decision.
As a Texan, I can say with certainty that if Texas would split into 5 states, those states would be political lines only - at least for a few generations. Once a Texan, always a Texan. Oh, before I forget, if you accept Snopes as a source .... Source

Democratic Texas Senators Forced into Exile
Just to prove that California isnt the only state mired in political turmoil, comes this letter from Texas State Senator Rodney Ellis who, along with 10 of his fellow Democratic state senators, have gone into voluntary exile in New Mexico. The Democrats have fled Texas in order to prevent the Texas Legislature from passing a Republican-backed bill that would redraw the states congressional districts in a way that would eliminate up to 7 Democrats from the U.S. House of Representatives. To make matters even worse, Texas Republican Governor Rick Perry has ordered Sen. Ellis and his band of exiles arrested and jailed should they return to their homes. This is quite a letter, folks.

You don't honestly think the US Government would like an agreement or the law get in the way of them keeping Texas in the Union even if the majority of its citizens voted to leave?
Yesterday at the Wilmingto, DE TEA Party, one speaker channeled Bob Dylan and said “Folks, the times they are a-changing.” When honest, hard working Americans of different political parties and issues stand up and say “ENOUGH”, then secession is NOT a forbidden subject. It is the ONLY recourse to a government that refuses to listen, to a government that is spending my grandchildrens’ money and depriving me of mine, to a government wilfull unto its own destruction.
I guess this makes me a terrorist. As the LIBs are so fond of reminding us: “One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.”
What an idiot; Secession is what this nation was founded un-the right to self-determination when our God given rights are trampled like the British did to early Americans, and now our Federal government is doing to us: btw I’d like to pay this guy $1000.00 if he CAN point out exactly WHERE in the US Constitution “secession” is “Unconstitutional??
Perry may be a RINO on some issues, but he’s a “hero” on this..
they’ve done it before in 1861-4, but I doubt they’d be sucessful again (Texas would).
Rodney Ellis represents a “Black” constituency in inner Houston i.e. lots of welfare parasites! In other words a classic lib
