EU: Earth warming faster
Reuters via Yahoo ^ | Tue Apr 7, 1:03 pm ET

OSLO/BONN (Reuters) – Global warming is likely to overshoot a 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 F) rise seen by the European Union and many developing nations as a trigger for "dangerous" change, a Reuters poll of scientists showed on Tuesday.

Nine of 11 experts, who were among authors of the final summary by the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in 2007 (IPCC), also said the evidence that mankind was to blame for climate change had grown stronger in the past two years.

This has all the normal stuff in it and we could have the normal debate... but there was part that really surprised me.

>>The IPCC said in 2007 that it was at least 90 percent certain that human activities, led by burning fossil fuels, were the main cause of warming in the past 50 years. Nine reckoned that evidence was stronger, two said it was unchanged.<<

This is the first time I have ever heard that the IPCC admitted that it wasn't certain that humans were the main cause of global warming. And that makes it all that much more important to address the other causes.

THAT, I think, is the avenue conservatives should take to prevent a boondoggle.

>>Removal of manmade sun-blocking smoke under clean air laws may add a 1 Celsius rise while oceans will warm further under a lag effect, underscoring how near the 2 degrees limit is already.<<

I thought this was significant too - they are saying removal of particulates are contribute half as much as CO2 - this is the first time I’ve seen the second largest cause mentioned and its one we could do something about - more particulates is easy.

“Earth Warming Faster”

Good excuse for the democrats to raise taxes on energy all the more faster.

IMHO

Nothing more useless then a Reuters poll. Can we please get back to science, the Leftist Dark Ages are just getting too long and too stupid.

My power bill which states the average outside temp for the month says March 09 was 3 degrees cooler than March 08, and with a number of unusual March snow days I believe it.

I’m sure the Dems will read it that way... as I mentioned above I see a couple of interesting counter points. Like the uncertainty in IPCC report and mentioning the second biggest cause as something we can do something about without cutting CO2.

I didn’t pay much attention to the poll part - it was the uncertainty in the previous report that has been under reported (if reported at all) and them mentioning another avenue besides cutting CO2.

Watching re-runs of the “Deadliest Catch” from last year where the ice came south faster and further than in recent years. Of course, the ice pack was shrinking, if you listened to the media.

The new season starts this week and there was reports all winter about increased ice. We will see what the guys say that make their living on the Bering Sea.

The last two years, huh? You mean the last two years that have experienced precipitous drops in world temperatures? The last two years that have set numerous cold and snowfall records?

Those last two years?

This authoritative discussion was based on a 2007 report (which was based on older data).

This is already 2009 and we know that the report was wrong.

I suspect the attendees had plenty of time to eat well and screw around.

Maybe I’m just too optimistic but I’m betting the downturn in the economy will make people a little less enviro-wacky.

Mid-April south of Tucson, and it topped out at 55 deg today. Should be warmer tomorrow, but this has been a cool spring.

The problem is that any warming or cooling will probably take place over a few hundred years, with variations up and down along the way. Makes it tough to look at 20 or 50 years of data and know the long term trend.

I have read (and will look for a source) that the last two years are still among the 10 hottest on record.

Now there’s an unbiased sample with no agenda to interfere with their objective judgment.

Global Taxing, uh, Warming...yeah that’s it, warming.

The last 10 years the natural cycle of the Earth has been cooling, not warming.

So of course the libtards of the world will push even faster now, to tax everything, based on the lie of man made global warming (we puny humans cannot change the climate of course).

Good Grief the Cap and Tax Bill will raise our electric bills so much we’ll have to light the house with candles, thus causing actual man made global warming....It’s all insanity, liberal insanity, all to get money from the masses and give it to governments.

It’s an evil plan from evil socialists. They will not stop until they have ruined the entire world with their socialist schemes to get money and political power.

"a trigger for dangerous change"

"The Communist Party USA views the 2008 elections as a tremendous opportunity to defeat the policies of the right-wing Republicans and to move our country in a new progressive direction.

The record turnout in the Democratic Presidential primary races shows that millions of voters, including millions of new voters, are using this election to bring about real change. We wholeheartedly agree with them."

A Landslide Mandate For Change

Congratulations on an extraordinary history making election!

We can think back with pride to decades of hard work toward our strategic goal of a big enough, broad enough and united enough labor and all-people’s movement that could overcome the ultra-right blockage to all progress. That all people’s movement has come to life, it is dynamic and it has the potential to keep growing.

The election of Barack Obama and a strengthened Congress creates new conditions in our country. There is now the possibility to shift gears and move forward. This new day requires us to further develop our tactics in order to continue to deepen and broaden labor and people’s unity.

There are thousands of experiences that we all have had in these momentous days, some large, some small, all of which express the enormity of change in thinking and readiness for involvement that is underway and that steels us for the battles ahead.

The tears of joy we all shared as crowds gathered to watch the election results here and throughout the world dramatize the new moment we are in.

Saul Alinsky on "Change"...
From Rules for Radicals, Alinsky outlines his strategy in organizing, writing:

"There's another reason for working inside the system. Dostoevsky said that taking a new step is what people fear most. Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people. They must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future. This acceptance is the reformation essential to any revolution."

A very interesting way to measure how fast temperature is rising, take a poll!!!...I wanted to see what data they were using to say temperatures were rising faster, and all I got was this stupid poll.
