WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A federal judge Tuesday set aside the conviction of former Sen. Ted Stevens.

The judge also initiated criminal contempt proceedings against the government lawyers who prosecuted the 85-year-old Alaska Republican.

He appointed an independent, nongovernment attorney, Henry Schuelke III, to investigate possible prosecutorial misconduct.

No they weren't. Look at when they got their jobs. These are career folks at justice, for example Brenda Morris started in 1992 under Clinton.

All prosecutors care about is winning. They don’t give a damn about the truth.

yes and no. Some care about their Marxist party winning power more than anything....and don't kid yourself.

"Nice, too bad the election can't be redone."

IIRC, there might be a way to call a special election under Alaska law.

Wouldn't it be fun to have Ted on the Judiciary Committee when Welch comes up for confirmation as US Atty????

I would pay a lot of money to see that!!

It just doesn't matter!

The Dims got what they wanted, the Senate seat, and since they believe the ends justify the means everything is just fine. Nothing to see here, and the press will not say or write word one about it.

We are now in a full-bore Communist regime and may not get out of it.

Always Right: Democrats are so corrupt....they did the same thing to whats his name in Texas...

PhilCollins: I think that you’re thinking of Tom Delay.

Phil, he's not thinking of Tom DeLay. DeLay is dirty. He must be thinking of Kay Bailey Hutchison.

When was Sen. Hutchison indicted? What were the charges? I didn’t hear about that.

In 2014, Gov. Palin should run for the U.S. Senate. She would easily win, since a Democrat only won because of the Stevens scandal.

—Brenda Morris Deputy of DOJ’s Public Integrity Section
—Patricia Merkamp Stemler Chief of DOJ’s Criminal Appeals
—Nicholas Marsh, DOJ Public Integrity trial attorney
—Edward Sullivan, DOJ Public Integrity trial attorney

The prosecutors aren’t named but the news made sure to say it was the BUSH DOJ.

The entire legal staff of the DOJ does not turn over with every president.
It will be interesting to see their respective histories.

Kay Bailey Hutchison was indicted in 1993.

In her trial, there was a directed verdict of "not guilty". Prosecutors had no evidence that she committed a crime.

The Stevens case is different. There is plenty of evidence that he hid gifts from the VECO management. Unfortunately, the prosecutors engaged in misconduct. Therefore, the judge rightly dismissed the charges. Stevens was not exonerated. It would be better to say that he got off on a technicality since he actually did do what he was accused of doing.

DeLay is in heep big trouble for what he did, too. I expect that DeLay will eventually get indicted and convicted at the federal level.

Defending the GOP's dirty politicians makes the whole party look bad.

You're absolutely correct. Stevens WAS caught red-handed.

This is why the Republican Party is keepings its collective mouth shut in the whole enchilada.

Kerry was in Cambodia in '68, under orders by Nixon!

Agree on Steven, disagree on DeLay. You can’t prosecute an ex-post-facto crime.
