Usually the technocrats did better, but both sets suffered from Unwarranted Cultural Superiority Syndrome - they thought they knew what the customers wanted better than the customers did.

Or put another way, they all thought that they could dictate what customers would buy as opposed to the other way around.

GM has yet to learn that you sell what the *customer* wants, even if you think it’s stupid. They still don’t get that.

If you Jagman are so damn bright, then give me an example of who you thing should run GM. Give me some names.

Running any manufacturing company in the US is almost an impossible job these days. Almost all the car companies are doing poorly. The great majority of manufacturing companies are doing poorly. It's the environment that's not conducive to manufacturing in general. It's the government, the unions, the MSM and the like.

Are you one of these Chicken *hit Military lawyers that makes it near impossible for our military men to do their jobs? What do you know about the auto industry or manufacturing. Have you ever run any type of manufacturing company?

If it was Obama who decided to oust Wagoner, he’s simply doing something the shareholders and Board of Directors should have done long ago.

Toyota. Honda. Ford.

There are no irreplaceable companies. GM is toast because not enough people freely want to pay what they are charging for what they are making. So, they lose money.

Now thanks to a nice classic Fascist 101 marriage between corporatist, unions and government, they will get, by force, money from taxpayers.

Nice.

Politico

The Obama administration asked Rick Wagoner, the chairman and CEO of General Motors, to step down and he agreed, a White House official said.

The White House confirmed Wagoner was leaving at the government’s behest after The Associated Press reported his immediate departure, without giving a reason.

On Monday, President Obama is to unveil his plans for the auto industry, including a response to a request for additional funds by GM and Chrysler.

Industry sources had said the White House planned very tough medicine, which turned out to be an understatement. And it went to the very top. The measures to be imposed by the government will have a dramatic effect on workers, unions, suppliers, retirees and the communities where plants are located, the sources said.

GM and Chrysler have to prove their viability as a condition of a federal bailout released under former President George W. Bush, and both have asked the current administration for more money.

Obama said Friday in an interview with CBS’s “Face the Nation,” broadcast Sunday, that the carmakers were going to have to do more.

I could do a better job!

File for bankruptcy and get it over with! Asking the government to ‘help’ with anything is a big mistake. It causes more problems than it solves.

How long has it taken them to get in on the retro craze and get a hot Camaro out the door? Ten years? Heck, even Chrysler with the Charger beat them.

Volts. Azteks. Algore cars.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to stay on in a position where he could expect to be publicly humiliated by corrupt mental dwarfs on a regular basis and not be able to do his job as he sees fit. Next stop Galt's Gulch..

President of the United States. GM put their testicles in the government vice by running at a deficit and taking government money.
