My gnomes tell me Lutz left because he couldn't deal with the new federal BS. He is a friend of Rush if that tells you anything.

Now while everyone berates and reviles Waggoner, IMHO he has tried to turn GM around and their has been a book about it's attempts to do so. The economy was to much to overcome.

The question is who and which Obamaton did this, and what dupe will they put in his place. My Guess is he didn't want to play ball with them.

Thank you! No!! I did the Leyland thing in the 1970s. Worse than the bell bottoms! They were rusting new on the dealer's lots! Sure would love to see that new Camarro. though! Turquoise blue with white vinyl, ooooh...

Most of the posters here don't know much about Rick Wagoner's contribution to GM. He has been one of the best CEO's you could possibly have.

I don't think anyone could have done a better job considering what he was up against. The CEO of GM has to be about the toughest job imaginable. Many of his critics wouldn't have lasted a week in this job.

It was Wagoner who brought in Bob Lutz I believe. It was Wagoner who moved the company in the direction of more fuel efficient cars that they COULD actually make money on like the Chevy Cruze. It was Wagoner who initiated the Chevy Volt.

Yes it's sad to see Wagoner go. There will be a lot of ignorant fools on this site and other places who will cheer on his departure. They are idiots. They are reactionary. They don't understand how difficult it is to manufacture cars (or anything else) here in the United States given the environment which has been created by government, the unions, the MSM (yes you real it right) and the general public.

Good luck Rick! You did a great job.

Ok, I'll back off on Wagoner just a bit, but.... the bigger fear is why he is leaving and what will soon be announced.

I wonder if Kevl is using this forum as a sounding board?

So I guess this week GM isn’t doing OK and will need more money.

Yes, on March 31st!

"Administration officials have indicated that the plan could include deadlines and conditions that GM and Chrysler, which are seeking an additional $21.6 billion, would have to meet to receive additional aid."

Just like Roger Smith and all the other overpaid, overperked rubes who ran GM into the ground, Wagoner wants to be an occupant of one of those strangely rearranging deckchairs as the automotive Titanic sinks beneath the waves.

You said more eloquently what I tried ham-fisted in post 42.

Thanks...

Wow. Talk about a picture not fitting a name. He's fairly hansom and truly a fighter for workers rights. I'm sure his people love him.

I, however, as a capitalist, wish he would have gone to dental school instead of becoming a professional communist.

Sorry, the Aztek should have ended his career right then and there.

As for Wagoner’s attempts to turn it around - too little, too late. Their latest idiocy was the Malibu, which was a credible competitor to the Camry - except for the fact that they wanted to you to *rent* the navigation system instead of buying it outright or putting a display unit in the car.

It's a good start. NEVER let a beancounter run your business.

GM has oscillated between bean counter and technocrat control for the past fifty years.

You are a fool and a fool of incredible proportions. Just who do you think is qualified to replace him?

Give me names. If you know he wasn't qualified then give me a person who is qualified. If you know so much then you must be an expert on who could run GM. It's just about the toughest job imaginable.

Do you think you could run GM? How about your friends. Could they run GM. You should do some research and learn some things before making stupid comments.
