There are great differences between the Sunni Iraqis and these taliban..
1. Many of the sunni insurgents were former Ba’athists and had no place to go besides the insurgency, either because of hatred of America or for profit motives
2. Many of those Sunni insurgents, even though radical, never came close to the ideals of Al Qaeda. They couldn’t stomach what AQ was doing, and thus turned against them. When they couldn’t fight them alone, most of them turned to the US military and the fledgling Iraqi government for help. On the other hand, the Taliban are hardcore radicals and have been since the early 90’s.
It would have been different had Obama discussed negotiations with other warlords who are opposed to the Taliban in NW Pakistan and Southern Afghanistan, which there are. But, O wants negotiations with the Taliban.

- You can have anything you want this meal, what are your selections? (We have some excellent VA ham - grown on property once owned by Thomas Jefferson.)
- Would you care for a cigarette?
- Would you care to make a statement?
- Blindfold or not?
- Ready on the Right?
- Ready on the left?
- All clear on the firing line.
- Shooters take aim.

And what the F*%& kind of CinC ever states anything publicly that the press could interpret as ‘we are not winning’?

It is against the Koran for a muslim to make jihad against another muslim. That is why the US will pull out of Iraq, and Afghanistan, cease hostilities against Taliban in Pakistan, and force Israel to free Gaza and a new Palestine in the West Bank, while supporting Syria and Libya and Lebanon.
