Serbia's Struggle for Survival: Lessons from Israel
Jihad Watch ^ | 3/1/09 | Raphael Israeli

Much comparative assumption has been predicated on the seemingly parallel situations in the two vastly different complexes of Serbia-Kosovo-Albania on the one hand, and Israel-Jordan-Palestinians on the other, thus warranting some elaboration that would put this intriguing matter to rest. This comparison is often resorted to by both sides of the divide, in both cases equally, invoking strikingly resemblant narratives and mirror-image arguments to justify each party’s cause. Furthermore, amazingly similar modes of development have been evolving in each complex, which may help to shed light upon each other and to evince once again the validity of the old adage, plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose.

The parallels are also rooted in political constructs of phony "ethnicities" that don't exist: there is no such thing as "a Palestinian", they are simply ethnic Arabs; and there is no such thing as "a Kosovar", they are simply ethnic Albanians.

"There is no such thing as a “Yugoslav,” they are simply “Serbs.”

What are you talking about, Joe?

Yugoslavia existed as a country for nearly 70 years, and was a founding member of the UN. It was a parliamentary democracy modeled on England until rising fascism pre-WWII forced it to declare martial law. Then, during WWII, communists inside the British government altered reports, convincing Churchill that the communist Tito was "their guy". And we in the West backed Tito for the next 40 years.

And what does "a Yugolav" have to do with this article?

They also have to be cautious on
"artistic expressions" such as THIS

Trifkovic Cartoon at Holocaust Contest TEHERAN
(Serbia's Slobodan Trifkovic Cartoon at TEHERAN HOLOCAUST CONTEST).
What kind of solidarity can expect from Israel after those exploits?

Oh, GMAB!

Serbia is the second largest supplier of arms & munitions to Israel, only exceeded by the US!

Interesting that a "Tehran Holocaust Contest" is on your reading list. Was it just to data-mine one Serb jack ass, or is that site on the Muslim Albanian "recommended reading list"?

You guys are so predictable.

That was a compromise, can't have Kosovo join Albania so they make it a new state. In the Israeli-Arab scenario, Serbs are the Arabs. Serbs came to the Balkans after being chased out of Carpathian Mountains or Russia, not the other way around. After the Bulgarian and the Byzantine Empire got weak Serbs moved into Kosovo around 1200 and took over Albanian villages:

"The monastery at Decani stands on a terrace commanding passes into High Albania. When Stefan Uros III founded it in 1330, he gave it many villages in the plain and catuns of Vlachs and Albanians between the Lim and the Beli Drim. Vlachs and Albanians had to carry salt for the monastery and provide it with serf labour. A large number of churches were sited strategically at Prizren and in 1348 Dusan is recorded as giving Albanian catuns to a monastery there. Metohija in fact was a great monastic estate."

Serbia sold arms to Israel, but they also sold it to Saddamm Hussein and Serbia is getting very close to Iran: Serbia Iran Serbia isn't struggling to survive, it's struggling to keep its stolen loot. In 1912 when serbia invaded Kosovo Albanians made over 70% of the population and no amount of propaganda changes that. Many Serbs even consider Dubrovnik a Serbian town.

Uh, Serbs are white & Christian. Kosovo Albanians are Muslim church-burners. Selling your upside-down construct is too stupid for words.

Slavs have been in the Balkans since about 600 AD and married into the indigenous people. I think 1400 years is beyond the statute of limitations.

Gonna try and sell that "Albanians are ancient Ilyyrians" nonsense that even intelligent Albanians reject, too? (All two of them!)

Seems Kosovo Albanians thought that the bastard child "Albanian Independent Kosovo"'s 1st birthday was also a good time to on a suicide vest.

Yeah -- "Albanians are just like Israelis". LOL!

First, since you brought race into, Albanians are whiter than Serbs. It doesn't matter but be careful what you start. Secondly you must define "Christian" a little better. Is it just a label, or a way of life? Israelis weren't convicted of crimes against humanity, rape and genocide like Serbs were.

With Serbs torching everything that isn't Serb in their path the "Christian" label is hard to stick.

You came in Kosova in the 12-13th century and don't confuse Serbs with 'slavs.' Bulgars ruled it long before you occupied it and you were out by 14-15th century.

As for Albanians being Illyrian or Thracian: all we know is that nomadic Serbs are very latecomers to the area and that's enough.

Passing Serbianna stories as gospel is pretty lame for a Serb (who are naturally smart, unlike the Albanians)

Ah yes, and the word "Albino" is really based on "Albanian". LOL! And who told you that, your old buddy Adolph?

Kosovo Albanian Nazis

you must define "Christian" a little better. Is it just a label,

Ah yes, Muslims, the perpetual "victims". Where have we heard that before?

Israelis weren't convicted of crimes against humanity, rape and genocide like Serbs were.

But the Albanians' role models, the Palestinians, are giving it their best shot at slapping that "genocidal" label on them, too.

You came in Kosova in the 12-13th century and don't confuse Serbs with 'slavs.'

I am an American, born & bred, moron. Tell your fairy tales, elsewhere.

The author of this original article is not Serbian, he is an Israeli Jew, as is Saul Shay -- and Julia Gorin has more than a few articles on the subject of Kosovo than you and your Albanian friends would like.

The sad truth is that regardless of who did what to whom in the Balkans, the entire purpose of breaking international law to rip Kosovo away from Serbia against Serbia's will, was to set a precedent to do the same to Israel to create a Palestinian state. Hillary Clinton, architect of the 1999 NATO Bombing of Yugoslavia, made that "Palestinian state" plan abundantly clear to Israel yesterday.

You are all over the place, you just forgot to mention 'organ trading'. I feel bad for you in a sense, but you started it. How about Serbian Nazis that helped make Belgrade the first Judenrein city in Europe? At most, 6000 Albanian joined the Nazis (and only for a few months,) how many Serbs did?

Blessed by your church as well!

The only entity that has broken International Law so far are the Serbs (on genocide no less!) as found by two courts in Hague.

If Kosovo declaration of Independence broke 1244, why didn't Ban Ki Moon annul it? He has the power and has invalidated plenty of laws prior to that through UNMIK. Serbia preaching about international law now that you can't start another war????

The architect of the NATO bombing was Serbia, you got a tiny, tiny taste of your medicine. The real justice would have been served by arming Croats, Albanians and Bosniaks the same way Serbs were armed. But there is always a next time with rascals like Artemije pushing for another war

The author is Jewish, like Eli Weisel, Tom Lantos, Chuck Schumer, Allbright and many other Jews that support non-Serbs in the Balkans? Were you trying to tell us something with that http://www.tamu.edu/upress/BOOKS/1997/cohen.htm (he is not a comedian like Gorin)?

Serbian heros, the Chetniks.

"How about Serbian Nazis that helped make Belgrade the first Judenrein city in Europe?"

That is a bizarre and preposterous claim.

Yes, eventually Germany conquered Yugoslavia, but not before the Serbs put up such a fierce resistance that it held Hitler back from invading Russia when he wanted to, delaying Operation Barbarossa which eventually cost Hitler the war.

Phillip Cohen's "Serbia's Secret War" is a pure piece of Croat propaganda. Cohen can't even speak Serbian, yet he claimed to have "uncovered secret Serbian WWII files"? Cohen was a paid shill -- a dentist with a Jewish name to slap on a piece of pro-Croat, anti-Serb propaganda for sale.

For anyone who actually wishes to stick to the original subject, Francesco Gil White, wrote an interesting article for the American Thinker a couple of years ago, on how the anti-Israel forces on university campuses were also the biggest anti-Serb forces on campus. Flying in the face of all evidence, these academics anti-Israeli and anti-Serb fervor is completely disconnected from any logic and they persecute any & all who disagree with them.

All one has to do to see the connection between the Balkan jihad and the ME jihad against Israel is to trace the footsteps of Amin al Husseini, Hitler's buddy and uncle to Yasser Arafat, who spread his evil ideas from the ME to the Balkans and back again. Hussieni is the ideological father of every jihadist from Alija Izetbegovic to Osama bin Laden.

And the flag in the opening sequence here is the WWII flag of the fascist Bosnian Muslims, one of whom Alija Izetbegovic was the 1990's wartime Muslim president of Bosnia.

Serbia, Iran to Sign Free Trade Agreement

TEHRAN (FNA)- Serbia’s Chamber of Commerce announced that a bilateral free trade agreement is going to be signed later this year between Iran and Serbia.

The business office also noted that the agreement comes following a visit to Tehran by a Serbian government and business delegation, Balkans business news (BBN) reported on Tuesday.

Serbian State Secretary in the Economy Ministry Vesna Arsic led the delegation to Tehran last week that explored ways to expand trade exchanges with Iran that stood at $50 million year.

Further talks are expected in April, as part of preparations to boost trade relations that have been lucrative for Serbian exporters.

The country enjoys a $38 million surplus in trade exchange with Iran.

Key companies that may benefit from broader cooperation with Iran include Pancevo-based maker of petrochemicals Petrohemija and several Serbian food producers and mining companies.

Also, Serbia’s manufacturer of hydraulic components Prva Petoletka whose privatization by a Russian consortium recently fell through is in negotiations to sell its products to a tractor maker in Iran.

Other possible exports from Serbia involve Belgrade-based producer of ball bearings IKL and engine factory IMR.

Albania calls for Iran investment

ATHENS (IRNA) -- Albanian President Bamir Topi on Tuesday called on Iran to make investment in Albania.

In a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Albania Ali-Eqbal Zarech, Topi discussed the latest regional developments as well as the issues about the Balkans and Kosovo.

Bringing stability in Kosovo would restore peace in the Balkans, the Albanian president said.

He also called for further Tehran-Tirana cooperation in the economic field.

Topi urged Iran’s participation in the Albanian investment projects.

Meanwhile, Iranian ambassador expressed Iran’s readiness to invest in the Albanian infrastructure projects and provide engineering and technical services for that country as well.

That's not just a little "trade", that's direct investment of Iran in Albania, being invited by Albanians.

Serbs must be like Forest Gump, always there and always on the right side. Looks like they saved the world from Hitler like the saved it from the Turks in 1389. Or did they?

From History.com: "During World War II, representatives of Yugoslavia's various regions sign an armistice with Nazi Germany at Belgrade, ending 11 days of futile resistance against the invading German Wehrmacht. More than 300,000 Yugoslav officers and soldiers were taken prisoner. Only 200 Germans died in the conquest of Yugoslavia.

On March 27, 1941, two days after the Yugoslav government signed a controversial pact with the Axis powers, Yugoslav air officers, aided by the British secret services, toppled the country's pro-Axis regime. In response, Nazi leader Adolf Hitler launched a massive invasion of the country that began on April 6 with the bombing of Belgrade. The Yugoslav defenders, made up of various politically unstable nationalities, were routed by the hordes of German, Italian, Hungarian, and Bulgarian troops invading their country."
http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history.do?action=Article&id=4927

11 days of trying to find someone to surrender to is hardly 'fierce.' 200 Germans dead when Yugoslavia had at 300,000+ army?

Did Francis Gil White find out if it was the CIA of the FBI that bombed the WTC?

As for Cohen, he just said what a Serbian book that looked at 23000 documents is about to say (Using Google Translate: " Nedić administration is kvislinška office, she serves German occupation authorities in all.Fourth Department Nedić administration, the special police department, the right lists the Jews, it identifies all to bust, taking into account jevrejskoj property ... Due to volume Nedić office organized a special department, called. Jewish department, later formed a department for the Jews and Cigane. When the administration kvislinškoj have such a department, it is what it works, helps in to what is called the "final solution of Jewish question".And in the territory of Belgrade, and on the territory of Serbia, the Holocaust carried out in the scary high percentage of about 12,000 Jews, survived the 1500 and from mixed marriages. 9000 near Belgrade Jews liquidated in the first year of the war. Germany command in Serbia pride exited before Firera with notification that Belgrade first Judenfrie, cleaned of Jews, a town in Europe. "

...On March 25th, 1941 Prince Paul, Regent of Yugoslavia, along with the Prime Minister Dragisa Cvetkovic signed Tripartite Pact, by which their nation was officially allied with Germany and Italy. Two days later their regime was overthrown by a military faction. The country was now ruled by Military General Simovic. History reveals that the British were instrumental in accomplishing this overthrow and, therefore, attempting to keep Yugoslavia from joining the enemy. When news that Prince Paul was about to sign the Tripartite Pact reached 10 Downing Street, the following message was sent to British Ambassador Sir Ronald Campbell:

You are authorized now to proceed at your discretion by any means at your disposal to move leaders and public opinion to understanding of realities and to take action to meet the situation. You have full authority for any measures that you may think it right to take to further change of Government or regime, even by coup d'etat.

Having accomplished the changed in helmsmanship, however, Britain was still unable to divert catastrophe. The new master of Yugoslavia, the Army High command, showed a marked lack of determination and resolve. Rather than denouncing the Tripartite Pact, Simovic hedged and hoped that the crisis could be resolved without recourse to warfare. Of course, this gave Adolf Hitler time to seize the initiative, which he soon did.

A day after the revolt in Yugoslavia Hitler signed 13 copies of his Directive No.25.The first paragraph of this document stated:

The military revolt in Yugoslavia has changed the political position in the Balkans. Yugoslavia, even if it makes initial professions of loyalty, must be regarded as an enemy and beaten down as soon as possible.

Having made the situation clear, Hitler then went on in the document to spell out just how the ‘beating down’ of Yugoslavia was to be accomplished. Two strategic groups would converge on Belgrade and wipe out the Yugoslav army. A third group would attack Serbian Macedonia. This would have the dual purpose of securing a base for the simultaneous attack on Greece. Germany would intensify internal strife within Yugoslavia by giving the Croats assurances of self determination.

To accomplish such a quick mobilization Hitler had to pull men from the preparations for project ‘Barbarossa’ – the attack on the Soviet Union. This was done and the German High Command soon had ten corps – four of which were armored – 32 divisions, including 10 armored and four motorized. Mussolini sent the 2nd Army under a General Ambrosio with four corps and the 11th Army to attack from Albania. Hungary joined in as an aggressor, on the promise from Hitler that Hungarian claims on Yugoslavia would be met. This despite a non-aggression pact signed with Yugoslavia just a few weeks previously. This betrayal of trust was what caused Hungarian Foreign Minister Count Teleki to commit suicide.

With such awesome forces amassed against her, it was only a matter of time before Yugoslavia, with an army of 28,000 men, succumbed. In fact, it took just 12 days for that to occur. On the 6th of April, units of Luftflotte IV began an unremitting air assault on Belgrade.

Simultaneously, the ground strike forces moved in. The XIV Motorized Corps began to advance from Bulgaria towards Belgrade. In 7 days they had advanced 312 miles along the Morava Valley. On April 13th, the XIV Motorized met up in Belgrade with the XLI Panzer Corps, which had advanced from the Timisoara region.

The Italians in the form of the 2nd Army had concentrated in Carinthia and southern Hungary. It engaged the Yugoslav Army at Barcs, on the border, captured a bridge over the Drava River and then opened up the way for a full scale rush into the heart of Yugoslavia. On April 15th, both Zagreb and Sarajevo were under enemy occupation. Meanwhile, the combined forces that had taken Belgrade moved to Krusevac to block the escape route of any Yugoslav remnants attempting to get from Bosnia to Macedonia.

The crushing of the Yugoslav Army was as much the result of their obsolete weaponry as it was the tactics of the enemy. Also, the Italians had for years attempted to undermine the morale of Croatians and now it was beginning to pay off. This can be seen by the following note from Colonel-General Halder of the German Winer-Neustadt division:

April 11, Good Friday . . . Information gathered during the course of the day gives the impression that in the north of Yugoslavia the front was breaking up with increasing rapidity. Units are laying down their arms or taking the road to captivity, according to our airmen. One cycle company captures a whole brigade with it’s staff. An enemy divisional commander radios his superior officer that his men are throwing down their arms and going home.

On April 17, 1941, the Yugoslav Foreign Minister, Aleksander Cincar-Markovic along with General Jankovic, the deputy Chief of Staff, went to Belgrade to sign the instrument of surrender drawn up by the by the conquerors. At the moment of signing King Peter II was aboard a Sunderland flying boat on his way to Egypt.

As a result of the surrender 6,028 Yugoslav officers along with 337,684 non commissioned officers and men became prisoners of war. However, nearly 300,000 men of the conquered army evaded capture. These formed a resistance force and were organized under a Colonel Draza Mihailovic – a key player in the March 27th overthrow.

"Milan Nedic had quite a smooth operation set up, no wonder he was very successful."

Actually, that link to wiki on Nedic was not half bad, but Nedic's "operation" was far from "smooth".

Nedic has always been reviled by Serbs as the Petain of his time, willing to sacrifice Jews and others to save Serbs. Although (like Prince Paul) Nedic was just trying to save his people & his country from overwhelming odds, he was a collaborator and therefore regarded as a traitor and a coward.

Personally, beyond persecution of the Jews & German collaboration, my biggest bone to pick with him was his having saved Madeline Albright!

-------------------------------------------

In 1939 he (Nedic) was made the Minister of Army and Navy of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, but because of his disapproval of a potential participation in the war alongside Adolf Hitler's Germany, Nedić was dismissed on 6 November 1940 by regent Paul. This was most likely out of unease with Nazi Germany's ally, Fascist Italy which at the time harboured the Croatian extreme nationalist Ustashe leader Ante Pavelić in exile in Rome, and because of the rhetoric of some Italian fascists in the past such as the late Gabriele D'Annunzio, who were violently opposed to a Yugoslav state.

The Wehrmacht commander Heinrich Danckelmann decided to entrust Nedić with the administration of German-occupied Serbia in order to pacify Serb resistance. Not long ago, Nedić had lost his only son and pregnant daughter in law in a munition explosion in Smederevo, in which several thousands died. He accepted the post of the prime minister in the government called the Government of National Salvation, on August 29, 1941.

On September 1, 1941, Nedić made a speech on Radio Belgrade where he declared the intent of his administration to "save the core of the Serbian people" occupied by Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany, the Independent State of Croatia, Hungary, and Bulgaria, as well as ethnic nationalists from Bosnia. Of these occupiers, the Ustashe-led regime of Croatia and Nazi-led Germany committed the most numerous and most horrendous atrocities on Serbs, some numbers indicating an estimated 700,000 Serbs were killed by the Ustashe. By accepting the occupation of Germany in the area of Sumadija, Drina Valley, Pomoravlje and Banat. He also spoke against organizing resistance to the occupying forces due to German Laws in which 50 Serbs were murdered for 1 wounded German soldier, and 100 for a killed soldier. In addition, more than 300,000 Serbs were forcefully taken to German camps. His state's actions were good intentioned for Serbs, but the opposite was the case for minority or opposition groups. His state's propaganda funded by Germany promoted anti-Semitism, anti-communism, which particularly linked these up with anti-masonry[2] as a means of swaying Serbs to see these groups as their enemies rather than the Germans.

The Serbian government under Nedić accepted many refugees mostly of Serbian descent, but also many Slovenes and the others including Milan Kucan former President of Slovenia and former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright (she and her family were originally Jewish Czechs, but converted to Catholicism to avoid persecution by Nazis and anti-Semites).

However aside from accepting Serb and other refugees, Nedic's state was a disaster for the Serb people. The German occupiers held no respect for his authority or Serbs and during the war, over 200,000 people died in Serbia of war-related causes in German reprisals, that demanded as above mentioned 100 killed Serbs for one killed German soldier, like Kragujevac massacre while Nedic's government did nothing. In August 1942, Nedic's puppet state and the German occupiers proclaimed Serbia Judenfrei.
