Biden: More Republicans will back final stimulus bill

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania (Reuters) - Vice President Joe Biden said on Wednesday he expected the final draft of the nearly $800 billion economic stimulus bill in Congress to attract support from Republicans who did not vote for it earlier.

Congress and the Obama administration reached a deal on Wednesday on a $789 billion economic stimulus package that mixes tax cuts and new government spending to boost the faltering economy. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said a final vote on the bill could come as early as Thursday.

Biden told a news conference in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he was confident the measure would garner support from some Republicans who did not back it earlier.

"It is my expectation that there will be Republicans who will vote for it, that there will be Republicans in the House and the Senate who have not voted for it before," Biden said.

All of these Dems are coming out this afternoon to speak to the media, but I am waiting for a Republican to come out and say something. This is very telling. Pelosi just wants to talk about School Construction. None of the Dems are giving ANY details.

Yes they are hoping for Grassley, but he really gave it to the Dem Conference members. They couldn’t say for certain when the Conference would be coming back before the Bill.

The Open portion of the Conference was a total Photo Op and nothing else.

-- I was under the impression that Cochran's conservative credentials were OK. Have I not been paying attention or something? What happened? --

I just threw his name out on account of his being named to the conference committee, one of 5 named from the senate. I used to follow the senate close, gave it up at the end of the 110th congress. I have total disrespect for Congress, double does of total for the Senate. Familiarity breeds contempt. I saw Senator Gregg go, overnight, from fiscal conservative to radical proponent of spending. He was the face of TARP. The Senate is full of phonies.

Voinovich, Lugar, Martinez and Kyl are four others that darn well might agree with this as well.

OPERATION CLEAN SWEEP!.

Let's "purge" the RINOS!

Snowe, Specter et al. are fowling the footpath, and we would be better without them in the GOP.

So, consider OPERATION CLEAN SWEEP! in which we conservatives show the RINOS the door by spending time, energy, and $$$ to wedge the rascals out during their primaries.

It's not like they do us any good; and they certainly are harming us (and the country, if you thing that the blue state stimulus package does that).

So, my FRiends, think OPERATION CLEAN SWEEP! and let's find us some worthy primary opponents for these deceitful posers.

Grassley said that only One Open Conference was required and he said it was nothing but a Photo OP. No questions were answered; just the same Dems saying we Must vote on it now for the American People.

I sent McCain money during the general campaign (he wasn't "my" candidate, but I was, and remain, fearful of Marxist Obama).

Mister McCain used my money to apologize for everything I believe in, and to secure the silver medal in the pres election.

I would not send him an additional farthing under any circumstance.

LOL. Well, it's partly irrational disgust. But only partly.

I was just skimming through Cochran's votes on TARP, and he was one of a few against that, so maybe he won't go with the flow on this one. I still don't trust any of them.

The day McCain voted for the (failed) TARP Bailout he lost my support, my vote, my money.

I simply will NOT vote for anyone who is voting for this stuff EVER again. No matter what the alternative is. You have to get your own house in order before you can worry about what the other guy is doing.

No more “lesser of two evils”.

I don't believe so. I think the some of the gang of three won't vote for it. Wouldn't be surprised if Arlin backs out.
