February 1, 2009 Dan Rooney's Obama Worship

Many recipients of championship trophies thank God for the giving them the opportunity. Those who don’t thank God will generally thank teammates or coaching staff. During the presentation of the Lombardi Trophy, the first utterance to proceed from the mouth of Steelers President Dan Rooney was - no kidding - “I would like to thank President Barack Obama.”

For what reason is he thanking a politician in connection with this Super Bowl victory?...

No kidding?

He’s a big time lib, responsible for the “Rooney rule” which forces affirmative action into NFL coaching hire situations.

I think I’ve read that Dan Rooney is some kind of nut and that the rest of the Rooneys are conservative Republicans.

Dan Rooney is beginning to remind me of Harry Reid. Not just the looks, but the abject stupidity. Were they separated at birth?

Fortunately for me and my friends, at the final gun everybody was bolting for the door, and due to the ice build up, we were busy getting one of the light trucks unstuck, so we all ‘missed’ this.

Thanked Obama? Good Lord....(eyes rolling)

Only a liberal could see the need for affirmative action in a sport where blacks, who make up only 12% of the population, account for 80% of the players.

I am a life long Stiller fan and I almost puked when Dan said that. He is probably a year away from being in a home so I will forgive his gaff. I am and always will be a STILLER fan.

SIX times, I hope America’s team was watching down in big D. Even though Dan said what he did he still looks like a class act compared to asshat Jerry Jones.

That’s what I’ve heard too, although a fellow freeper on my Quinn & Rose morning thread pointed out that Dan Rooney has that look that might indicate dementia.

Why the heck he’d thanks OBAMA is beyond me!!!

Still, I love our Steelers. This doesn’t change that!

Maybe after Obama declared that he was in favor of the Steelers, those hundred yards of penalties against the Cardinals weren't just a coincidence...it is the Chicago way.

As a Cowboy’s fan it is a sacrilige to be a Steeler’s fan. That goes way back to the 70’s when the Cowboys were cheated out of 2 Super Bowl wins due to lousy calls. Lynn Swan tripped over Bennie Barnes!! After the game, even the referees said it was a bad call. They called Barnes for pass interference and gave the Steelers a cheap touch down.

Oh well not to be a sore loser, but Looney Rooney is another reason to dislike the Steelers. Obama said that Looney Rooney went all over PA campaigning for him.

“And I thought I hated the Steelers BEFORE I read this!”

I wish old man Rooney had made his Zero comment before the game, so I would have had a legitimate reason to root against them!

I didn’t see him say this. When I first saw it mentioned, I thought it was satire.
You mean he really said this?

“Why the heck he’d thanks OBAMA is beyond me!!!” Dan Rooney qualifies for at least quasi-celebrity status. Many of these celebs will do or say anything for attention.

“I think I’ve read that Dan Rooney is some kind of nut and that the rest of the Rooneys are conservative Republicans.”

Yes, Tom Rooney, a grandson of Art is one of our Republican Congressman here in Palm Beach County. He just won the seat vacated by the disgraced Tim Mahoney who had taken the seat from the disgraced RINO Mark Foley. (We’ve got some problems here in PB County.)

Tom Rooney is a great, humble gentleman and a genuine conservative. He spent a significant amount of time giving us the opportunity to get to know him and grill him thouroghly. I believe he’s a genuine patriot and great admirer of our founding fathers.
