NASA's curious climate capers ( Computer Models say it is warming....?)
The Register (UK) ^ | Evan Jones

There have been a few red faces at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in recent days, to match the predominant color of its October global temperature map. Based at Columbia University in New York, GISS is the division of NASA that is responsible for global climate data and is used by the media in assessing global warming. After analyzing the data, GISS reported that October 2008 was the warmest October since reliable record-keeping began in 1880. But there was something very wrong with the numbers.

Last week the October data started to be released. First, UAH (the University of Alabama at Huntsville) and RSS (Remote Sensing Systems) - the two groups that measure satellite data for lower troposphere - weighed in. The temperature anomaly for October was much the same as September, they reported approximately 0.2°C over the 1979-2000 average for each of those months.

But GISS, unlike UAH or RSS showed a startling jump, indicating the warmest October ever recorded.

Fire them all at GISS and shut it down.
Do it for the global economy.

Curious that this American agency story doesn’t make it into the American press.

Good roasting of Dr. Hansen ...chief global Warming town crier....

******************************EXCERPT************************

Hansen's role as the director in charge of the evidence of climate change has also caused controversy. It was Hansen who gave the issue national prominence during the 1988 Senate hearings.

Recently he has urged trials for "climate criminals" - energy executives who disagree with his hypothesis and policy prescription (for Hansen has both).

Hansen traveled to England to testify for the defence of environmental activists who vandalized a coal power station.

What happens when valid science disproves the popular scientific myths of the world? It gets ignored and discredited. Any investigation into alternative theories is shouted down and banned from conferences and universities.

We saw it happen with evolution and intelligent design.

We’re seeing it happen with global warming. We will continue to see it even as the next ice age begins, because “big science” is run by cult leaders stirring a giant vat of Kool-Aid and not by rational fact-gatherers and thinkers who seek knowledge instead of power.

I agree, fire Hansen and close down the GISStapo.

NASA traded in it’s corprate integrity for some government funding and the bragging rights to being a stooge for the global warming hoax, which is nothing more than Marxism in a Halloween costume.

Who exactly is going to do that? His supporters just won the White House, and have nearly complete control of both houses of Congress.

They’ll also soon have effective control of the Supreme Court, assuming some of the old justices kick off.

Who exactly is going to fire the guy?

NASA should fire Hansen. He’s not a scientist worthy of the term - he’s a number fudging fraud who is using NASA to advance his lunatic global warming agenda.

There should be an extended and loud chorus that James E. Hansen should be indicted for scientific fraud. He should immediately be relieved for cause from his position at GISS, and a thorough reexamination and audit of his findings and activities should be provided to the public.

GISS makes unannounced, unexplained changes, and this practice is confusing and gets in the way of scholarship. GISS calibrates its data to 0.01°C. This implies a very high degree of accuracy and low margin of error. But their aggregate adjustments add up to tens of times greater than this scale. Therefore to provide data in hundredths of a degree is a clear case of misplaced precision.

Nothing else needs to be said.

When computer "models data" challenge the validity of direct observations, even the densest moonbat kool-aid drinker must begin to have nagging doubts about the entire debate.

If Russia had reported (or NASA cut and pasted) March's data in the April report leaving huge stretches of Russia a very dark blue one the temperature variation map and a one degree worldwide drop in temperature, you can bet that Hansen and gang would have been on top of that error like white on rice. They wouldn't have let it out until they found their error even if they had to delay the release by weeks. This error "proved" their desired findings, so it went public quickly.

With all of Hansen's stunts such as refusing to release raw data or calculation methods for peer review, any science he touches stinks of subjectivity. He must go.
