WASHINGTON -- The Capitol Steps, an ensemble that entertains Washington with political satire that often is indistinguishable from the news, begins its current show with a public address announcement advising the audience to note where the auditorium's exits are.

Obama opposed the surge in Iraq, the success of which was perhaps a necessary prerequisite for his election. It removed the danger that he could be cast as advocating, or at least resigned to and complacent about, military defeat, from which most Americans, however much they regret the war, flinch.

I can barely understand the tortured logic here. I suspect the whole argument is completely lost on the average Obama supporter. Is Will suggesting a Kerry like flipflop, that Obama was against the war before he was for it.

the storm's aftermath -- $1 trillion or so of government resources siphoned away -- will have put a polar frost on most such ambitions..... ....liberals, with their baroque plans and rococo dreams...Indeed, Obama's first problem will be drawing lines to circumscribe bailout promiscuity. The Bush administration, having executed a swan dive...into the financial sector,

This part is first class writing. It proves what I have always maintained. There is a drunk George Will and a sober George Will. One writes masterfully and one writes abysmal slop. [I am not going to begin to guess which is which]. What is remarkable here is that we see both in the same article. His analysis of the problems Obama faces are right on. Maybe if he had stuck to some of that he wouldn't be considered an occasional hack by conservatives.

has rolled a gutterball here

His columns veer from the gutter on one side to the gutter on the other side. Consequently he usually knocks down a couple of pins. Sometimes he gets a strike. I am just trying to figure out whether it correlates with his state of sobriety or whether it is just random.

"political satire that often is indistinguishable from the news"

...Thanks to George and his fellow media 'elites'.

Ah, these courtiers and their justifications for their existence LOL! Perhaps no one but a fool would 'play the fool' for today's DC establishment despite the high demand and pay.

I used to love reading Will’s writings in the 1970s & ‘80s. He was actually conservative back then. I thought he jumped the shark when he reversed his age old opposition to the designated hitter in baseball. Now he just makes me want to puke whenever I (rarely) read his columns.
A washed-up sellout, just like Peggy Noonan.

But the storm's aftermath -- $1 trillion or so of government resources siphoned away -- will severely constrain Obama's presidency.

This was the sentence that he lost me on. The government has no resources. The belong to us, the citzens. Me thinks Mr. Will has forgotten this most important principle in the USA.

Looks like a couple who was just denied their right to marry in CA. Watch where you hold that teddy.
