He figures he’ll be getting that presidential pension for the rest of his life plus millions for giving speeches so who needs it ?
I’m a lawyer. I let one bar membership (People Republic of DC) lapse because I never practiced there and they charged a $300 annual fee to keep it in force.
However, most states allow you to take inactive status with no annual fee and no CLE requirements, so it is an open question why he gave it up.

That’s actually kind of normal. If you don’t practice anymore, there is really no need as they require you to attend so many CLS (continuing legal education) course a year to keep it current. It is, quite frankly, a pain in the ass. It’s easy to get it back by bringing your dues current and attending some makeup courses. Most attorneys that no longer represent clients, and aren’t going to do so, let it lapse.

It is very easy to go “inactive.” No continuing education, just a cheap fee each year. For some reason... Lefties let their law licenses lapse regularly. They have no respect for the system.
