The political arm of Veterans of Foreign Wars on Saturday endorsed Democratic U.S. Rep. Nick Lampson, who did not serve in the military, over Republican challenger Pete Olson, a former Navy pilot and Pentagon liaison.
Also, the National Rifle Association made its backing of Lampson official, months after signaling its support of his legislative votes for gun ownership rights.

You are exactly right. The NRA is, and always has been, bi-partisan. If you are an incumbent who supports their issues, you will be endorsed - no matter who the challenger is or what the challenger says.
Sounds fair enough I guess. I am all for 2nd Amendment and if the challenger is not stronger than the current guy in the seat, I guess the NRA should endorse. I don’t know much about either candidate so I am glad that we continue a 2nd amendment guy on our side.
The N.R.A. is not a toady of the Republican National Committee. It supports candidates when their records support N.R.A. views. While this is mostly Republicans, it is not always Republicans. Every once in a while, they find a sane democrat.
Oh, the NRA DOES take stands. However, the stands they take are not as far reaching or pleasing to conservatives as other gun-rights groups, such as the GOA.
By the way, GOA is “officially” b-partisan, too. Most, if not all, of these single issues/ratings groups are - be it NRTL, NARAL, Gun Control groups, etc. They pretty much have to be, especially when it comes to endorsements.
Over the course of an election season you will nearly always see a decidedly conservative group endorse a DEM and a decidedly liberal group endorse a GOPer. That way, the group(s) can claim they are not officially a part of the apparatus of any political party.
I may have to drop my VFW membership. My post in Illinois also allows the Commiecrats to use it free of charge for political purposes. There are still a lot of WWII members who believe the democrat party is for the little guy. As these brainwashed oldtimers are dying at a rapid pace and few remember FDR these days the VFW may in fact become a more Conservative organization or die itself. Sad that a party of patriots would ever endorse a democRAT politician isn’t it?
“Just being from Beaumont is enough...”
Hey, I’m from Beaumont and I resemble that remark!
The only time an NRA endorsement or the 2nd Amendment is an issue is in the Presidency or the Senate, which is where the judges will be picked and approved.
I have my Pete Olson and McCain/Palin signs in my yard in the Meadows. There are two other Olson signs on the street, and a Lampson sign on the street behind me.
Sad that a party of patriots would ever endorse a democRAT politician isnt it?
Sad yes, but in today’s world there is no choice. Not even pro choice. Ya gotta take a stand. It’s the Alamo of today.
And the VFW wonders why they have a hard time signing up new members. They become AARP with a flag.
I'm an absolutist about the 2nd. If you are not in jail,or on probation, you get your guns. No permits, no permission, no tax and no license.
The primary reason of the 2nd is not hunting or self defense against some meth head. It is to attack and overthrow the government when it becomes tyrannical.
Believe it or not, considering I don’t even own a gun, I share your exact sentiments on the 2nd Amendment. I could not agree with you more.
The 2nd Amendment IS your license.
“Someone needs to check the NRA and see what party some of these people belong.”
You have to remember that the NRA is a single-issue organization. They go by your track-record on gun-votes, nothing else. If a Dem has an A+ rating, and the GOP opponent has an A, they’ll push for the Dem. If their positions on guns are the same, and they think the Dem is more likely to win, they’ll push for the Dem to “buy” political capital with that person to keep him/her on the straight and narrow for that issue. They don’t care about anything else. It’s a mistake, but that’s the way it is. Just like with McCain, his anti-gun past was convieniently forgotten once it looked like Hillary or Obama would be the Dem choice. They’re panicking right now. The 1st Freedom mag I get is filled with DON’T STAY HOME, DON’T VOTE FOR OBAMA, DON’T VOTE 3RD PARTY, A 3RD PARTY VOTE (OR NO VOTE AT ALL) IS A VOTE FOR OBAMA, IF OBAMA WINS THE WORLD WILL END.....etc..etc..
American Legion tends to be more conservative. VFW has been infested with the same “don’t touch my government benefits/entitlements” mentality that AARP has. Hard to believe these same folks sacrificed so much for their country so long ago.
No, VFW and NRA endorse ANY incumbent who has voted with them on most of their issues. Both organizations are full of Democrats too.
Leftist infiltrators are destroying multiple institutions.
Now is the time to take names and push back.
This is an outrage.
That’s why I don’t give any money to the NRA. They are idiots. The biggest threat to gun rights doesn’t come from congress, it comes from an unelected activist judiciary. These Rats they support, especially in the senate will vote to confirm B. Hussein’s supreme court nominations (if, God forbid he becomes president)and that will be their end around to the 2nd amendment.
“Where have the Christian Coalition and the NRA been this campaign season? “
Excellent question!
What has happened to the Christian coalition?
Well, that's it, I'm done with the NRA.
