Bosnia's Serbs Threaten To Secede

BANJA LUKA, Bosnia-Herzegovina (AFP)--Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik warned Tuesday that Bosnia could break apart if Muslim leaders questioned the existence of his entity, a local weekly reported.

"Republika Srpska (or RS) is being challenged by the Muslim political elite," Dodik told the Fokus weekly.

"We are facing on daily basis attacks by officials of Bosnia's Islamic religious community and their conception on how to annul RS."

The Dayton peace accords, which ended the 1992-95 war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, divided the erstwhile Yugoslav republic into two entities which make up Bosnia - the Serbs' Republika Srpska and the Muslim-Croat Federation.

Dodik is the prime minister of Republika Srpska.

"Many in the former Yugoslavia wanted the country to (continue existing) but it broke apart since some were belittling others," Dodik said.

In the early 1990s, four of the former Yugoslavia's six republics - Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia and Slovenia - proclaimed independence leaving Serbia and Montenegro together until 2006.

The 1991 proclamation of independence by Croatia and a year later by Bosnia, opposed by ethnic Serbs, were followed by wars which claimed some 20,000 and 100,000 lives respectively.

"We do not want any imposed project" regarding Bosnia, Dodik said, stressing that Serbs backed the Dayton peace accords which "clearly made a balance."

"Such a Bosnia-Herzegovina can function."

Bosnia's two halves share weak central institutions while each has its own government and police.

Serbs strongly oppose any strengthening of central institutions, sought by the international community to make the country more functional, at the expense of their entity's autonomy.

I don’t think that JasonC is Ronly Bonly Jones. He’s not a newbie, and doesn’t support Barack Hussein as RBJ does, even if secretly.

But he is engaging in ronly-bonly thinking!!!!

muslim-dominated Bosnia is a jihadist salient pointing at the heart of Europe, and a total disaster for both Europe and America. Let our friends in Republika Srpska join Serbia, and Herceg Bosna join Croatia. Let Euro Disney manage the rest (guarded by Western and Russian troops), as a theme park and a museum of islamism. Stephen Suleiman Schwartz can serve as ringmaster.

Ah, you’ve seen one hatred-spewing bigot, you’ve seen them all. It’s hardly my fault that he acts as poorly as he does.

Maybe they’re practicing for the declarations of the independence of Aztlan and Alaska which at least McCain would seem to support by an open borders policy on the one hand and a running mate who congratulates secessionists in Alaska on their “good work” on the other

They will work in concert. Of course, McCain doesn't remember that he co-sponsored mass amnesty legislation with Edward Kennedy, because he is (now) denying ever supporting illegal immigration!

I would suggest, in the future, that you post directly to JasonC and LenS and they will provide you the emotional effect that your looking for.

These two individuals have a lot more built-up hatred toward Serbs than Hoplite - which is what I suspect you're looking for (right?).

I ping Hoppy because I ping those that I’m familiar with seeing on FR Balkans threads.

What’s your position regarding Russia and Georgia?

“Of course, by doing that they would be accepting in principle the independence of Kosovo...”

Now that the international laws have been broken and apparently were useless, I don’t see any issues here. For an example, see Georgia. Do any of the warnings those opposed to Kosovo’s independence made throughout that catastrophe make sense yet?

“Fiction. Christians have always been the majority. Muslim 40%, Orthodox 31%, Roman Catholic 15%, other 14%.”

Let’s recheck those numbers in 10-15 years. I think you know where I’m going with this. If not, look at Kosovo statistics and how they have changed in the last 10 years.
