Bosnia's Serbs Threaten To Secede

BANJA LUKA, Bosnia-Herzegovina (AFP)--Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik warned Tuesday that Bosnia could break apart if Muslim leaders questioned the existence of his entity, a local weekly reported.

"Republika Srpska (or RS) is being challenged by the Muslim political elite," Dodik told the Fokus weekly.

"We are facing on daily basis attacks by officials of Bosnia's Islamic religious community and their conception on how to annul RS."

The Dayton peace accords, which ended the 1992-95 war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, divided the erstwhile Yugoslav republic into two entities which make up Bosnia - the Serbs' Republika Srpska and the Muslim-Croat Federation.

Dodik is the prime minister of Republika Srpska.

"Many in the former Yugoslavia wanted the country to (continue existing) but it broke apart since some were belittling others," Dodik said.

In the early 1990s, four of the former Yugoslavia's six republics - Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia and Slovenia - proclaimed independence leaving Serbia and Montenegro together until 2006.

The 1991 proclamation of independence by Croatia and a year later by Bosnia, opposed by ethnic Serbs, were followed by wars which claimed some 20,000 and 100,000 lives respectively.

"We do not want any imposed project" regarding Bosnia, Dodik said, stressing that Serbs backed the Dayton peace accords which "clearly made a balance."

"Such a Bosnia-Herzegovina can function."

Bosnia's two halves share weak central institutions while each has its own government and police.

Serbs strongly oppose any strengthening of central institutions, sought by the international community to make the country more functional, at the expense of their entity's autonomy.

Oh and forget about that mythical "we". You aren't an American, you are a traitor, and you and I have nothing whatever in common.

Diocletian is actually a Croat so he would likely not be on the side of the Republica Srbska. However, Bosnian politics is really confusing so I am not sure which side the Croat community in Bosnia is on at the moment.

Oh, the Bosnian Serbs might fight to join Serbia, because they don't want to live in a Muslim-dominated state

Fiction. Christians have always been the majority. Muslim 40%, Orthodox 31%, Roman Catholic 15%, other 14%

I am an American, you however, sir sound an aweful lot like a troll and a DUer. “I am not american”..pah, yeah right!

We may not have anything in common, however it is because your view that Bosnian Serbs should be killed by American troops (it isn’t even our fight), that is ludicrus, especially because it’s known fact that The Bosnian Muslims have been allied with Al Queda in the past!

BTW: Jason I am NOT excusing anything the Serbs did in the 90’s Bosnian Wars, just that the other side killed just like the Serbs did, they were ALL guilty!

Oh and I still stand by that we had no business being there, “nation policing”...Where was the USA’s “dog” in this fight? What did we get out of it except a distraction from Clinton’s personal affairs..?

Sarajevo is now a monoethnic (Muslim) city, thoroughlhy cleansed of any non-Muslim "elements." (read Christian) The Muslim government in Sarajevo insists on doing a "country"-wide census in which one will not be able to declare his or her nationality, and or religion.

This is the final stage of eradicating RS by the west and creating a third Muslim state in the Balkans, thanks in large part to people like Senators McCain and Biden.

You forgot to include the piously incompetent US media and the ignorant US polity. JasonC comes to mind...

Actually he support RS and Dodik as Dodik has advocated that the Hercegovi should split off, as well, and join Croatia.

I am pretty sure that he is an American - he had some excellent points on one of the other political threads. He just seems to have a very strong bias on this topic.

"Oh, the Bosnian Serbs might fight to join Serbia, because they don't want to live in a Muslim-dominated state"

"Fiction"

I said "Muslim-dominated" politically, not Muslim majority. Muslims are a minority in Bosnia, but most Westerners don't know that.

The Bosnian Croats went a little crazy a few weeks ago, because the government painted the sidewalks "Muslim Green". Ah, how nice of the West to give the Bosnian Muslims that "gift". I am sure that they will put in "a good word to Allah for us", and we are supposed to sleep sounder for that. NOT!

Earlier he wrote that he wasn't. It's mind over matter. I don't mind and he doesn't matter. :)

If he has any brains, he is wasting them on invectives, and nobody will take him seriously. Talk about a dolt.

By recognizing Kosovo “independence”, the West has accepted in principle the independence of the Serbian Republic, right?

So, if the Serbs aren’t Christian BonlyC, whose Churches were the Albanian Muslims burning in Kosovo, eh?

“This is the final stage of eradicating RS by the west and creating a third Muslim state in the Balkans, thanks in large part to people like Senators McCain and Biden.”

Maybe they’re practicing for the declarations of the independence of Aztlan and Alaska which at least McCain would seem to support by an open borders policy on the one hand and a running mate who congratulates secessionists in Alaska on their “good work” on the other.
