Who Sets the Bar When It Comes To Cocktails: Democrats or Republicans?

Washington, D.C. – August 18, 2008 – While there is no ballot box at the bar, DC’s best bartenders can identify political preference by cocktail selection and bar behavior. According to a survey released today, Democrats are seen as better tippers, have better pick-up lines and give better toasts. Republicans heavily outweigh Democrats when it comes to ordering their drink straight up. Parties are at a stalemate over drinking hours, with Republicans edging out for the first to arrive a happy hour and Democrats being the last to go home.

The survey was issued today by Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. [Fortune Brands, Inc. (NYSE:FO)], a global leader in premium spirits, in collaboration with Clarus Research Group. Approximately 100 bartenders in the Washington, DC area were surveyed on their opinions of patrons’ cocktail preferences.

“According to the survey results, bartenders in Denver should know that they’ll hear better toasts while the bartenders in Minneapolis won’t need as much ice with their patrons ordering drinks straight up,” stated Bobby “G” Gleason, master mixologist for Beam Global Spirits & Wine.

I’m surprised Dems are the better tippers. Their two big groups, women and blacks, are terrible tippers (I say this as a woman and an erstwhile bartender and waitron). Maybe all the fat-cat Dem PI attorneys get drunk and throw their wallets on the bar?

Actually, dims are great tippers when they are spending OPM (Other People’s Money). However, when spending their own, they will get out their calculator and figure the tip to the penny. Not kidding, I’ve seen it.

My observations are similar but I would disagree on the tipping issue. The only customers I see that don’t tip at all are liberals and mostly women. Maybe its just because I tend bar at an American Legion Post.

Democrats are seen as better tippers”

BS. Only if it is with someone else’s money.

“have better pick-up lines”

I don’t consider proposals for sex between fags to be interesting pick up lines.

“...and give better toasts.”

Doubtful. D’s are good at coveting, but really poor at congratulating someone on achievement. Unless they are some sort of sexual deviant (see previous point).

“Republicans heavily outweigh Democrats when it comes to ordering their drink straight up.”

This one I believe. Fruity drinks that are really dessert don’t really count.

Dems are truly pathetic. And it shows in every aspect of life.

Interesting stuff, thanks for posting it.

Wonder why the GOP’ers prefer the stiffer drinks?

Attorneys are notoriously cheap.

I’d venture that democrats like drinks with more ingredients and republicans with less.

All my conservative female friends are great tippers. Maybe because we all had to work, often at waiting tables, since our conservative parents believed that we needed to earn our way.

How do you “rate” pick up lines? Are people ASKED their party affiliation? Are the bartenders busy listening to the lines customers are using?

I guess these must be slow bars, I generally see bartenders too busy to catch any of the conversations going on around them enough to participate in a “study” as to “who said what” and “what their politics” are.

What are the politics of the women who are reportedly more taken by Democrat pick-up lines? Is it assumed that just because they “hook up” after meeting in a bar, that they share the same politics? Could this also be a reason why Republican men aren’t using “hot” pick up lines in bars?

Wonder what is considered a good pickup line at a Dem Convention?

“Hey babe, wanna earn $50 the old fashion way?”

LOL. Haven't the last 8 years disabused us of the notion that only Dems like to spend taxpayer's money with reckless abandon?
