I wonder if the Russian foray into Georgia speeded up the decision to let the missiles be based in Poland.

Definitely.

One of Poland’s conditions to agree to host that base was, that U.S. will station Patriot missiles in Poland too.

U.S. didn’t want to accept this demand, as they were afraid such a move would piss off the Russians (as it would be clearly protection against possible Russian attack).

Now I think they don’t care about that anymore.

Certainly Georgia has loomed huge in the mind of the Poles these last days.

Pootie gets his first "consequence" of his actions -- the next consequence is likely to be an accelerated acceptance of Ukraine into NATO.

Payback doesn't always have to be military action...
