Elizabeth Edwards Speaks Out on Husband's Affair
ABCNEWS ^ | August 08, 2008 | Jennifer Parker

Posted on 08/08/2008 6:31:27 PM PDT by ricks_place

ABC News' Jennifer Parker reports: Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of former Sen. John Edwards has reacted to the news of her husband's affair, posting a blog titled "Today" on the liberal Daily Kos website and asking for privacy for her family.

In the blog, Elizabeth Edwards says her husband told her about the affair in 2006 and they worked through it. "This was our private matter," she writes.

She heaps blame on the news media for prying into her family's life, writing, "the toll on our family of news helicopters over our house and reporters in our driveway is yet unknown."

She disputes the National Enquirer allegations that her husband fathered a child outside of their marriage.

The Elizabeth Edwards blog on Daily Kos reads: "Our family has been through a lot. Some caused by nature, some caused by human weakness, and some – most recently – caused by the desire for sensationalism and profit without any regard for the human consequences. None of these has been easy. But we have stood with one another through them all. Although John believes he should stand alone and take the consequences of his action now, when the door closes behind him, he has his family waiting for him.

"John made a terrible mistake in 2006. The fact that it is a mistake that many others have made before him did not make it any easier for me to hear when he told me what he had done. But he did tell me. And we began a long and painful process in 2006, a process oddly made somewhat easier with my diagnosis in March of 2007.

I guess only Republicans are fair game for the media.

They lambaste The Inquirer for following Edwards to this assignation, but I seem to recall that The Old Gray Lady accused McCain, without any real evidence, of having an affair with someone 8 years ago.

And I think I remember the DNC sponsoring a campaign to out Republicans during the Impeachment hearings.

This guy is the essence of the TEXTBOOK LIMOSINE LIBERAL. A coward, no guts, no responsibility, no character, no morals, no ethics, no care about anything except himself. TYPICAL. Now his wife has to face the news media. What a puke this reprobate coward loser is. Letting his dying wife face the world for what HE DID.

The liberal socialist demorats should be real proud of this typical example of their values.

What is with these lefty women and their sad self sacrificing excuses for their scavenging husbands?

Yeah....self sacrifice for the larger cause.

What a pitiful lack of self respect Mrs. Clinton and Mrs. Edwards must have that they enable their husbands to abuse them in public. Shameful.
I applaud the Japanese wife who assaulted her philandering politician husband as he was making his mea culpa for infidelity in front of the press. If more politicians’ wives did that, there would be less of this gross hypocrisy on the national stage.

Years ago several of us were reading DU and watching how low and vicious those people were - talking trash about Laura Ingraham’s recent diagnosis of breast cancer. DUmmies thought that was delicious and were laughing and mocking like the creeps they are.

Then Elizabeth Edwards (posting under her own name) made a classy comment along the lines of, “Laura Ingraham is another vicitm of cancer and this is totally inappropriate for anyone to make fun of her or to laugh at her.”

IMO, that elevated Elizabeth Edwards to heights well above the rabble over there. I wish there was a way he could be taken down (where he belongs) and at the same time, protect her from the humiliation she’s dealing with. I’m personally praying for her because this has to be beyond painful for her!

What can you say about a man grabbing at a Presidential nomination, willing to accept it, despite the drama of a family, mistress and illegitimate child in tow? All the while keeping the voting public in the dark.

If the affair ended in 2006, and the baby was born in Feb ‘08, it couldn’t possibly be his child. If that is the case, why was he visiting hiss former lover and some other man’s baby in the middle of the night last month.

Must be part of the 1% that isn’t true.

Oh please Liz, put a cork in it.

The man’s an adulterer. Blame everyone but him.
You all are in the limelight so get over it.

I think there are a lot more marriages like this out there than we would assume... Especially when it comes to society-types, and that definitely includes politicians who have or seek and “real power”.

What I don’t understand is how these women - especially liberal-minded women - justify their behavior in response to the public outing of these affairs... You would think in order to set a good example to other women (especially young women) that they wouldn’t be flagrant enablers, but I think that’s lost on them...

If anything here, this should be a lesson why people who want to be CIC need to conduct themselves honorably.

If for no other reason than the fact they can be blackmailed.

Clinton may have stayed in office, but the jury is still out on whether our security was sacrificed because of his bad behavior.

I have heard rumors before that operatives of other countries knew about Clinton's indiscretions.

Why didn't she just come right out and say it?

It's Bush's fault.
