Seattle Times ^ | August 3rd | Froma Harrop

We who obsess over universal health coverage may soon confront a startling development: The only candidate on a major-party presidential ticket to have proposed and implemented a universal plan could well be a Republican. I speak of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, now high on the list of John McCain's possible running mates.

Our Dem Governor here in Tennessee is quite the fiscal GURU. He chose people over state in getting VW. I was impressed.

If you compare Gov. Palin’s record to the Messiah’s, you will note she has more experience as an elected representative than the Chosen One. I think she is the smart choice...get the disinfranshised Hillary voters and energize the McCain campaign.

I’ll explain what exactly he offers Conservatives.

First he is a VERY effective communicator for our cause.

Romney has always been against McCain-Feingold.

Romney is tough on border security- He is endorsed by Tom Tancredo.

Romney is absolutely pro-life.

Romney is a devoted and moral family man who has been married to his wife for 39 years. He has 5 songs.
No worries about any scandals here.

Mitt is a proven leader. He weeded out corruption from the Olympic Games and saved them.

He governed in a very liberal state and put forth moderate ideas. You have to work with what you’re given.

It’s quite different from Huckabee. Huckabee raised taxes in a Conservative state. That took guts.. NOT

I’m with you. If Obama doesn’t take a female for veep, Palin is the Republicans ticket to victory.

Romney is a brilliant reformer. He’s made millions on turning around failing businesses. Some of the names we might never hear today would be Staples, Domino’s Pizza, and others. He parachuted-in and turned around a multi-billion dollar worldwide sporting event from deficits and corruption to make it only one of two which has turned in a profit. He consistently vetoed tax and spending increases in MA and converted to support the pro-life viewpoint in a hostile environment.

Unforunately Governor Palin is tainted by scandal. Whether it's true or not.. it's still something she has to deal with.

Palin investigated for abuse of office.

I don’t think either one has the experience needed. Reacting to a racist/sexist politically correct mandate is the very thing that is drowning this Country.

I would love to see Mr. Romeny dig into the government bureaucracy and energize the private sector.

Huckabee couldn’t get things done in a fairly Conservative state.

Hey-ho the Huckster needs to go! lol!

Meanwhile, Mitt’s “wonderful” healthcare plan is driving Mass. into bankruptcy.

I can’t imagine what would have happened if such a poorly-conceived plan had been instituted on a nationwide basis...

Absolutely the last thing this country needs is to have a Mitt and McCain candidacy: the ticket is bad enough already.

“So your statement just doesn’t cut it. There’s something else.”

You are right. There is something else. He’s a Mormon, don’t ya know, and that just isn’t acceptable to the likes of some on this thread.

She does, you’re right. But Obama is not sufficiently qualified for the Office. And neither is she (yet). Picking her is tempting but I am not so sure a pro-life, moose-hunting, fly-fishing conservative Woman (with a capital W :) ) is going to attract many ex-Hillary women. I’m just not sold on that.

Quick see if you can find something to eliminate any conservative choice so all we are left is the gay-loving, flip-flopping, gun-grabbing, culture of death-fostering, big-government loving, nanny-state creating, liberal former governor of Massachusetts.
