For Blacks in France Obama’s Rise is Reason to Rejoice and to Hope
The New York Times ^ | June 17, 2008 | MICHAEL KIMMELMAN

Posted on 06/16/2008 11:08:57 PM PDT by Cincinna

When Youssoupha, a black rapper here, was asked the other day what was on his mind, a grin spread across his face. “Barack Obama,” he said. “Obama tells us everything is possible.”

A new black consciousness is emerging in France, lately hastened by, of all things, the presumptive Democratic nominee for president of the United States. An article in Le Monde a few days ago described how Mr. Obama is “stirring up high hopes” among blacks here. Even seeing the word “noir” (“black”) in a French newspaper was an occasion for surprise until recently.

Meanwhile, this past weekend, 60 cars were burned and some 50 young people scuffled with police and firemen, injuring several of them, in a poor minority suburb of Vitry-le-François, in the Marne region of northeast France.

The French have always had a fascination with American Blacks, since the days of Josephine Baker, James Baldwin, and "les jazzmen".

Is this statement the corollary of the article?

“Meanwhile, this past weekend, 60 cars were burned and some 50 young people scuffled with police and firemen, injuring several of them, in a poor minority suburb of Vitry-le-François, in the Marne region of northeast France.”

Yes, we get it NYT. The Blacks love Obama.

Tomorrow’s edition: Blacks in England love Obama. Thursday edition: Blacks in Germany love Obama.

But then the NYT drills down deep, and supplies the details:

Tuesday:"Blacks in England look for hope, love Obomba"

Wednesday:"Blacks in Germany look for change, love Obomba"

Thursday:"Blacks in France look for hope and change, love Obomba"

Sounds more like a warning to me. The rest of the world is making it clear that they will be very disappointed — possibly even violently disappointed — if Obama is not elected.

It’s starting to worry me.

Never met a “black” in France who supported the idea that “whites” could live in Africa. It’s always, “ugh, no whites in Africa”. or something fouler. Yet, they’re streaming to Europe.

And not in their wildest dreams or in their lifetimes could a black man be President in France, Prime Minister in England or Chancellor in Germany.

And yet the fact that it can be done in the US is a declaration of a miracle?! Europeans drive me nuts.

"les jazzmen".

With a free hotel room above the bar, free booze, heroin and a filly thrown in now and then, I'm always thankful to the French for keeping Dexter Gordon alive.

I’m a little curious as to why the supposedly oh-so-much-more-enlightened European countries haven’t elected any racial minorities thus far?

The drive-by media in full race mode. Naturally
whitey need not apply.

for over 50 yrs the media has denounced America
as racist and yet they cannot wait to interject
race into this election.

I thought the civil rights movement was supposed to
create a color blind society.

I have a question. How is a black man living in France referred to? African-Frenchman.

“Obama tells us everything is possible.”

Just how is Mr. Frenchie going to get more freebies from someone being elected half way across the globe?

Besides, BHO will be spending so much that there will be nothing left to give.

Wow, what a wonderful world it will be when the Obamessiah reigns. He will even bring peace to the streets of France.

Makes me want to gag.

If Obama is not elected it will be a conviction, condemnation, and the failure of the American people to conquer our own racism. /sarcasm

It will give “the World” a reason to investigate our election processes. Obamas failure to be elected will give “the World” the foothold it needs to interfere even more than it already does. It will call for our sovereignty to end and overseers to be placed into the halls of congress.
