I got a funny feeling about this...

Exercise extreme caution."

Why should Papertyger exercise extreme caution? Is there something wrong with Papertyger posting a hello to the new person from China? I'm curious.

Just a little word of caution about corresponding with strangers from non-free nations.

In China, the wrong sort of political statement can get you thrown into prison. Kinda like the U.S. should Hillary win.

That does not answer what I was asking.

Worst case scenario, what is wrong with strangers posting here? You're a stranger to me, I'm a stranger to you, we both assume that we are both Americans but really unless I had met you during a FReeper event, there would be no way I could confirm that you had ever set foot in the USA. And even if I had met you, and assumed from your unbroken English that you were a native born American, you could still be a foreign spy.

So what if you were a foreign spy? Wouldn't then your exposure here to discussion about how concerned Americans are about the catatrophic events in China go a long way to making things better?

chinaboy,

My condolences to you on the death of your father and to you and your people on the recent tragedy in China.

I will continue to pray for your country and for those who have been affected by this earthquake.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us at FR.

As another American guy said, the Chinese are very shy. In fact, when we say something here we are afraid that may hurt someone. I always hurt and you always hurt me. That’s because we believe in something different. But we - you and me - don’t want to hurt each other. We are all human. I really appreciate your care for us, especially those now in earthquake area so much. And I do believe you are good persons. I can tell you that when I read some, if not all, western medias, I really fell hurt so much, because i feel that they don’t look us as equal. They think they are the judger. Maybe they think most Chinese hate the gov, but i can tell you NO. While when we say no, they call us nationalism.

Right, but he's here now as are others from China. If it's by accident then let's pray that they can continue posting here. We can learn from them as much as they can learn from us. If it's by design that they are here, that also can be good.

My prayers are for all in China who have been injured, killed or affected by this terrible earthquake. Politics can wait awhile while there is great and immediate human need for compassion, understanding and prayer.

We are all human Nicely said...Unfortunately, many a government has attempted to take our humanity from us. Many in the current China government do not understand the greatness that can be China if they backed away from the Communist ideals of controlling free speech, elections etc. Here in America, we are far from perfect. That being said, I still can sit down in a cafe and argue with my friend the virtues of varying political candidates and ideals they promote. I can do that and not worry either of us will be silenced or be called an antigovernment threat and be scared of being "re-educated" in some fashion. It is unfortunate that the Communist regime in China can not wake up and understand and allow their people to debate and determine the countries future without fear their own citizens can not make a better determination then the few in charge, who believe they are the better thinkers, can. Very sad as the Chinese people as a whole are much greater then the few who dictate to them. I pray for your fellow citizens in the earthquake region as well. My God bring comfort tot he survivors in their time of need and anguish. What a horrible thing to happen.

All I’m saying is, this is the Internet. You have no idea if this guy or guys is/are who they say they are. It has happened before (see DITHF). EVERY time there is a tragedy, people come out of the woodwork to prey on the victims and those expressing sympathy. I’m just saying be cautious.

Yes indeed and I do remember DITHF....which ended up being quite foolish, didn’t it?

Such is cyberworld. And such is Free Republic!

Of course one can be “taken in” by a faker here....because we have “freedom” here.

Freedom.....that is this place’s hallmark, that is (was) our nation’s hallmark.

Would that it would become the hallmark for the Chinese people and for all the world’s people as well.
